Andrew Yang proposes ‘giant space mirrors’ to combat climate change (too much sun)
NY Post ^ | 8/28/19 | Christopher Carbone

**SNIP**

Like many of his fellow Democratic presidential candidates, Yang has proposed using a wide range of tools to ramp up renewable energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, establish new standards on emissions for buildings, cars and the entire electric grid and boost nuclear energy capacity.

However, his 20-year, $4.87 trillion climate plan differs in one way and that’s in terms of geoengineering - the notion that humans should take deliberate and large-scale action concerning climate in order to stop or slow down the planet’s warming.

Yang’s plan would provide $800 million to NASA, the Department of Defense and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to research geoengineering, which includes investigating “giant foldable space mirrors” as an emergency measure of last resort.

“Space mirrors would involve launching giant foldable mirrors into space that would deploy and reflect much of the sun’s light [away from the planet]. This method would be extremely expensive, which is why it should be investigated as a last resort. However, since we would be able to ‘undo’ the mirror after deployment if needed, it’s less permanent,” Yang has written.

The sun? No one has mentioned that in like decades. No wonder the RATS didn't want all of this mess on one debate stage. The good news - the newly formed Space Force will be up to the task!

Space mirror has an advantage. It can reflect sunlight away from where it’s too warm, and towards where it’s too cold.

And as bonus, once the mirrors are up there, we could focus them, a la Archimedes on our enemies!

lol mirrors- what next? mandate that all cars must be made out of shiny reflective material on the tops? Everyone must carry a reflective mirror studded umbrella whenever they go outside? Equip cows with mirror blankets to offset their fartiness?

You go andrew- keep those excellent suggestions coming- sheesh!

The expenditure of trillion$ however on something that is likely to be "undone" is very permanent.

Let me guess. He received a sizeable donation from Spacely Space Mirrors.

Give him credit. At least he realizes the sun does play at least a minor part in climate.

Back in college, we talked about this to ward off the coming Ice Age. Giant mirrors to reflect the sunlight that is passing by the earth.

Until we did the math.

Yang to just let the cat out on the sky is falling crowd.

Reminder though, we’re entering into a solar minimum and late on an ice age so Mr. MAGIC $1k A MONTH nutter is still wrong somewhat.. again.

That’s a good idea; but it would be better to use space mirrors to bring the arctic up to a reasonable temperature and open up a brand new frontier, right here on Earth.

Hmmmm. I wonder if his plan only applies to the 15% of Global CO2 emissions into the atmosphere from the United States.

If so it will have close to zero impact on the upward trend of atmospheric CO2.

Or we could consider going to war with of the rest of the world (the 85%) to force them to also destroy their economy and standard of living just so Bernie Sanders could sleep well at night.

All you have to do is decrease the amount of daytime, don’t have daylight savings time where the sun heats the Earth for an extra hour during the hottest time of the year.
