President Trump: Stronger Background Checks Would Not Stop Attacks
Breitbart ^ | 1 Sep 2019 | AWR Hawkins

Posted on 09/01/2019 11:59:19 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

While speaking to reporters Sunday morning President Trump said stronger background checks would not have stopped the mass public attacks our nation has witnessed over the past six or seven years. Trump said, “I will say that for the most part, sadly if you look at the last four or five going back even five or six or seven years, for the most part, as strong as you make your background checks, they would not have stopped any of it.”

He made these comments the day after a man in the Midland-Odessa region of Texas drove around shooting people while sitting inside his vehicle.

The New York Times reports that Trump assured reporters he is “speaking with Republicans and Democrats on possible legislative efforts regarding guns,” but no other details were forthcoming.

On August 5–just days after the heinous attacks in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio–Trump called for bipartisan action for “strong background checks.” He reiterated that call on August 7 then appeared to slowly shift away from that position.

On August 20, Breitbart News reported Trump saying, “We have very, very strong background checks right now. But we have, sort of, missing areas and areas that don’t complete the whole circle. And we’re looking at different things.”

On August 19, Politico quoted Trump saying, “Congress is going to be reporting back to me with ideas. And they’ll come in from Democrats and Republicans. And I’ll look at it very strongly. But just remember, we already have a lot of background checks.”

Chicago has the biggest gun problem in the entire nation and not one Democrat has demanded we DO SOMETHING about Chicago. DO SOMETHING about Chicago first and you will have my undivided attention.

Armed, responsible citizens can stop these insane maniacs better than 14,000 new laws....

Just a coincidence this latest shooting in TX came less than 9 hours before the new more lax gun laws.

What do you suggest needs to be done? Even armed police officers were hurt or compromised yesterday. The perpetrator was able to get away with a lot before being confronted by someone armed. And in such unstable circumstances too (a highway...) kinda hard to aim back at a shooter without collateral. :(

All this drama . . .

Makes me want to forget the location of my boat accident and take up heroin.

Just need to get ‘happy.’

Thanks I just read up on the new laws. And all I can say is, this isn’t your grandfather’s America. You don’t understand just how many crazy individuals there are — and it’s gotten to the point where lax-er laws are doing far more to help the abusers of freedom carry out vicious crimes than the law-abiders to protect themselves. And so long as that is the case, it will be the insane people not the good guys who will be the poster children for gun freedom.

My sister is in Texas and all around her the state is “purpling” over issues like this. Can you imagine losing TX to the Dems? Not too many years away from that. Just giving you a reality check.

You are in far, far, far more danger from government than you are from armed crazies.

Governments murdered 262,000,000 of their own citizens in the 20th century alone, and every one of those democides had citizen disarmament as a prerequisite, and most of those democides were committed by “redistributionist” governments.

So what do you suggest needs to be done by government to protect us from armed mass-murderers like government?

A while ago, someone pointed out the futility of many drug and firearm restrictions in a free society, when you consider that there are weapons and drugs IN PRISONS!!

Or, upon reflection, maybe the prison example offers insight into the REAL intent behind many drug and firearm restrictions in a free society...

The best defense is an offense. More armed citizens exercising their 2A rights anywhere, anytime, anyway. Constitutional Carry. Put these animals down where they stand and this sh*t will come to a screeching halt.

I blame the schools and the PC culture.
Young people get angry too easily because they are frustrated. They respond in extremes.

He’s backing off of going wobbly on gun control. Good. Now he’s got a shot of getting re-elected in 2020.

(Although, I do expect him to go all-in on gun control on Jan 21, 2021.)
