Dive boat crews are up moving the boats to new divested before first light. So it would be expected that the passengers were still in their bunks.

from what I understand, the crew were sleeping above deck they were able to get out..everyone else was asleep below deck they probably didn’t have a clue what was happening very sad
That is odd.
Possibly odd but I've been a passenger on this boat before and all of crew berthing is above the main deck. KTLA's pictures show the entire berthing compartment for passengers (below the main deck) completely burned out. 3am fire? Not likely anyone below the main deck survived. This is the worst dive industry tragedy in southern california history. Prayers for passengers, crew, the Finstads and Worldwide Dive Adventures (charter group) and Kristy Finstad family plus Truth Aquatics.
That does seem strange.
Hard to put out a fire if all the capable hands jumped off. Must have been a horrific explosion as I would imagine someone would have attempted to help if possible.
