An American woman has been charged with human trafficking after allegedly trying to smuggle a six-day-old baby out of the Philippines.
At a press conference by the Philippines National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Thursday, International Airport Investigation Division chief Manuel Dimaano said the 43-year-old US woman had used a sling bag to allegedly hide the baby while passing through immigration, and did not provide any documentation for the child.
Dimaano said that after immigration, the woman allegedly removed the baby from the bag and was carrying it when she tried to board her Delta Airlines flight at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
"She has been charged with a violation of the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003," NBI spokesperson Auralyn Pascual said.
"The child's situation must have been very difficult during the time that he was put inside that bag."

Probably a case of someone not wanting to wait for a sometimes very long adoption process. Maybe not though. The mind reels at the horrific possibilities in todays fallen world.

She wasn’t trafficking - she was taking the baby to her home to raise it, she wasn’t selling it.
Probably some desperate woman wanting a child. Whole they were arresting her 3 comex boxes full of slaves were shipped to Saudi Arabia.
Shouldn’t all foreign invaders bringing children into the country that aren’t their offspring be charged with human trafficking?
Since the child was so badly mistreated and was possibly legally kidnapped, can the child apply for asylum?
To apply for asylum the applicant must prove that he or she would be persecuted on account of one of five protected grounds: race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or particular social group. Are children a social group as they are defined by age and responsibility? Social group is defined as a group consisting of two or more people who regularly interact and share a sense of unity and common identity. If the child played with another child, that criteria is met. Slippery slope.

How do you know that? The other issue, did she buy the baby? This is human trafficking. It may or may not be the ugly horrific side of it- we don’t have enough facts to know. The laws about legal immigration and the process to legally bring children from another country for adoption are there for a reason. Not all people are good people, we don’t even know if she is a good person or is possibly involved with selling babies black market to who ever has the money.
When people don’t follow the laws we have no way to know what they are up to. I have seen the ugly side of human trafficking of children and can tell you the people that transport the children usually do seem like nice upstanding people who would never do such a thing. Smuggling children is much easier if there is a caregiver type, keeps the children calm so they don’t get noticed. That is the plan.
From the news story I gathered she wanted a child of her own and somehow found a site that dealt with children to be placed for a fee - if anything, the person who soled the baby would be trafficking since it appeared the woman was going to keep it and raise it as her own.
At least that is her story. Who knows it may be true, but far more often their stories are just stories.
Could be - she may have bought the baby for someone else then she could be charged for trafficking.
