CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The mother of a woman killed when a man rammed his car through a crowd protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, is suing the convicted murderer for wrongful death.

Susan Bro filed a $12 million lawsuit Aug. 30 against 22-year-old James Alex Fields Jr., who is now serving life sentences plus 419 years on numerous convictions.

The Daily Progress reports Thursday that Bro said she doesn’t want Fields’ “blood money.” She just wants to make sure he can’t profit from selling the rights to his story or publishing a memoir.

No one deserves to be hit by a car for protesting, regardless of where they stand politically. This was a protest, and despite the violence from both sides, she wasn’t participating in it. Have you seen how obese she was? (thanks to a freeper who shared those pictures of her torso - OMG!!!)

She died of a transected thoracic aorta, not a heart attack. She only had minimal coronary atherosclerosis.

Here is a link the autopsy:

Thanks for the link, and I took some time to look through a few articles. He was fined something like a half million dollars with a life sentence + the 419 years.

That makes this lawsuit even weirder for me - how would he ever be able to pay the court judgement and somehow profit from a book deal? Bogus lawsuit just seems designed to keep drawing attention to the case. At the same time, I have to give the benefit of a doubt to a grieving mother, I’ve never lost a child, nor can I even imagine what she went through.

I find it hard to believe this very heavy woman went "flying thru the air"..

what we have here is a non pc white defendant getting railroaded.....guilty of something yes...prosecute....but this was a persecution.....

if this was a black guy, they would be coming out of the woods to defend this utter travesty....

“when Clarence Thomas and David Koch died”

Umm, Clarence Thomas is alive, unless you know something we don’t.

I don’t know.

I remember hearing that right after it happened, then nothing.

Unfortunately POTUS Trump called the guy a Murderer right after the event, without knowing the details of what transpired.

I was disappointed he made that comment before any facts were known. I expect that crap form Obama, not Trump.

I posted earlier my correction - as I mentioned above, I was reading up on Clarence’s biography before I switched to this tab and I mistyped.

I meant Scalia.

“419 years.”

Fields got credit for time served.

He may only have to do 417 years after he dies.

She wasn’t hurting anybody - nor could she, given her obesity, unless she sat on them - but that’s just heartless.

I didn’t state, or imply that she was hurting anybody. I said “Stupidity has consequences”.
If you want to debate that, let’s do.

Ultimately it depends on the layer of stupidity. Intent vs. action. That can also apply to the perp vs. the victim, stupid or not.

Somebody needs to write an objective, factual, and legally knowledgeable account about what happened here. With links to videos. A project for Ann Coulter?

Her daughter died of a heart attack, not injuries sustained from a hit from his vehicle.

I don't think this is true. The medical report I saw listed "cardiac arrest" as the cause of death, but the full description was "cardiac arrest caused by blunt force trauma" or something to that effect.
