Felicity Huffman tells judge she wanted her daughter to 'have a FAIR SHOT' at college acceptance,..

as prosecutors call for actress to spend just ONE MONTH in jail after she pleaded guilty in admissions scandal

Felicity Huffman has been recommended to spend just one month in jail in connection to the college admissions scandal where she pleaded guilty in April to mail fraud and honest services fraud.

The actress wrote in a letter delivered to a Boston judge on Friday that believed she was giving her daughter with a learning disability a 'fair shot' by paying $15,000 for a SAT test to be corrected to help Sophia gain entry to the University of Southern California.

After prosecutors originally called for Huffman to spend between four and 10 months locked up, the recommendation filed Friday by the U.S. Attorney's office asked for her to be jailed for 30 days.

Following her time inside, Huffman, 56, will be on supervised released for a year if prosecutors - who described her acts as 'deliberate and manifestly criminal' - get their way.

'In the context of this case, neither probation nor home confinement (in a large home in the Hollywood Hills with an infinity pool) would constitute meaningful punishment or deter others from committing similar crimes,' prosecutors wrote to the judge about Huffman, who is married to 69-year-old Shameless star William H. Macy.

Felicity is mother to daughters Sophia, 19, and Georgia, 17, and admitted to paying for a proctor to correct wrong answers on Sophia's exams.

Huffman routed her payment though admissions official Singer via his nonprofit Key Worldwide Foundation; prosecutors said the aforementioned foundation was set up as a front to accept payoffs.

Prosecutors added: 'Her efforts weren't driven by need or desperation, but by a sense of entitlement, or at least moral cluelessness, facilitated by wealth and insularity'.

The deserving poor get bombarded with mail from colleges that want to take them (and they should beware of the money trap that drops them an inch from the finish line).

The people who get screwed in all of this are the other students who are made to look bad because this Hollywood person’s unserious kid sails on through their college experience while everyone else struggles. A further downside is that any networking opportunities will be going to this already connected person.

This is going to harm because it will deny opportunity to new people with good ideas and will instead keep society stuck with increasingly unfit elites. It sort of reminds me of what they say about science advancing one death at a time, only it would be like passing the chair to the scientist’s kid regardless of their ability instead of going with a new person.

This is just another aristocrisy. Nothing we haven’t seen before.

I liked Huffman a darned sight more than the other one. At least she plead guilty if memory serves, so she should get the lighter sentence because she isn’t trying to bombard the system with expensive lawyers to try to get bad precedents set for other lawbreakers to use in the future. The others plead innocent. The problem will be if they walk and she goes to jail.

Jail is a waste of time and money for the state. Volunteering at a minority school in a center city would give her the wake up call to see how privileged she and her daughter is.

Felicity and her husband are worth 50 million at least. Heck give both girls 10 million and they’d be set for life.

If these parents had started making generous direct donations ten years ago to the schools they wanted their kids to go to, most of those kids would have been admitted.

Instead, the parents will probably have to pay their lawyers more money than it would have cost to directly and legally “bribe” the university.

I feel really bad for the one girl who was earning six figures off her website and did not even want to go to college.

Economically, she was miles ahead of kids her own age.

Now, her sponsors have dropped her, and her name has been tarnished.

Good grief. Look at Macy and Huffman. No wonder they had to pay $15,000. for a college opening.

The star claimed in the letter that she considered cheating for six weeks after mastermind Singer told her Sophia's test scores would be too low to get into college.

There are no SAT scores that are too low to get into college, since there are far too many colleges. Thanks to the gov't guaranteed student loan program, anyone with a pulse can go to college now.

The coach she paid off didn’t get any jail time for accepting bribes. She likely won’t get any time either.

All the daughter had to do was claim to be trans. Problem solved.

With light punishment, many more parents will take the chance of not getting caught any pay to get their child into school of their choice.

“...she’ll end up with a little community service where she can look pretty at a food pantry or soup kitchen pretending to care about the “little people”.”

And you can believe she’ll have a film crew there recording...including the set manager, makeup person, prop guy, crowd control...gonna get crowded in that soup kitchen. Heck, I bet there are shots of her sharing a bowl of gruel with some poor homeless person. So kind...

Colleges typically try to enroll as many foreign students as possible for two reasons: (1) they pay higher out-of-state tuition at many schools, and (2) they tend to be wealthy and pay 100% of the cost with no financial aid.

If I was on a jury for a criminal case like this, I think I might refuse to convict on principle. I would never go to the lengths that these people did to get their kids into college, but for the life of me I can’t figure out what makes any of this a CRIME. Maybe I’d side with the colleges in a CIVIL lawsuit, but even then I don’t see how the colleges were even “victims” in any sense here.

“Fair” in the new lib dictionary doesn’t have the same definition as every other dictionary in the world.

What she did was wrong and it does matter but it’s the harm to society that concerns me more than the potential loss to the college’s brand. I’d convict if the proof was there, but I’d be a lot more interested in community service in this lady’s case because she already admitted guilt.
