To: Alas Babylon!
Morning everyone, AB,all, as usual a very busy week with lots of stuff going on starting with Dorian.

The biggest hit of all by the drivebys was Trump insinuating that Alabama was in the cone of Dorian's path.

Actually for a while it was.

Did Trump royally screw up,absolutely not!

Than there was this: finally What was going on was NOAA was up to their old tricks which are mostly not doing the job at hand. Just like marine data buoys that pocket Florida Bay all over the place where no one needs them and they are useless but when its time to monitor a storm there are no buoys on the ocean side from Miami to Marathon.

Enter NOAA. They forgot to fix the one buoy at Mollasses reef light.Or they didn't have the maintenance budget for it. either way when the storm hits we have nothing from NOAA/Once again they are TOO little too late and why the entire buoy system needs to be privatized.

Not much difference in forecasting.

Why did Trump/NOAA include Ala. in the cone? Because NOAA was using the wrong data. Not the first time.

The real data was a low pressure system discovered by a forecaster in the Midwest, Bernie Rayco, who did an 18 minute video showing that a dying low pressure system off the keys was actually moving Dorian not the high that Noaa was using as a steering current.Rayco figured out that the low pressure would do a hand-off Sunday night to the high pressure that was being used by NOAA. mysteriously the next day after Bernies video noaa totally changed their tracking to parallel the coast which is what it did.Just what Bernie said it would. Typical big govt. reluctance to use or even search for the correct info intel. They always take the easy way out.

So accd. to NOAA at the time, before it hit the Bahamas Dorian was supposed to have gone across Florida into the Gulf of Mexico where Alabama would have come into play making Trump's prediction correct at the time. But you will never hear that from the drivebys it's not in their interest.

Good job RG. Love the pics.

That flap about Alabama (hey AB, Alabama finally got a mention in national politics) being in the path of Dorian....really those people need to get a life.

Love the comparison of Dorian to Biden. And indeed those who feared the hurricane used generators, NOT SOLAR PANELS.

The big news this morning is that with those wonderful congress critters returning the IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS WILL RE-COMMENCE!!!!

I believe with all my heart I think the Democrats are seriously hurting themselves. Because Americans are generally fair people. Maybe a lot of them don’t like Trump but the impeachment talk is unfair and will cause decent Americans....ie most of US...to be disgusted with those Democratic children.

So true Rod.

The other thing about Hurricanes that we full time residents know is that the thing to watch is the total footprint of the storm. Just because the eye is in one place doesn’t mean that you are unaffected.

With a projected path across Florida mid central to north and the size of this storm including multiple states is common.... Trump was illustrating the size, not predicting any final landing etc...

The other thing often reported on for viewership is the maximum gust vs the effect on the perimiter.

Being 70 miles from Grand Bahama we experienced a max gust of 50.... Cat 1 is 75 so even though the Hurricane was reported as a 5 the actual impact area received lesser wind effects.

Rain was less than a tropical storm. A welcomed relief.

These continued even when the storm was up in the Jacksonville area. 200+ miles from our location.

Hurricanes are unpredictable and the better you prepare the safer you will be.

That said the islands affected are where we routinely boat to and our Grady White Boating club is in the midst, like many other organizations, of getting help to our friends who we have known for over 10 years...

It will take years for them to rebuild, and future storms can impact slow them down even more...
