The irony is, the Dems didn’t really need to do this in 1996, cuz the Republican Party gave the nomination to Bob Dole, one of the weakest candidates ever

1996. Not that it matters but Lamar Alexander would have had the best chance to beat Clinton, plaid shirt and all. Southern Gov.

Yeah, and then it was done again with McCain. Dole and McCain might as well have been McGovern making a comeback.
