Left will go nuts
Good news and victory for those who do not want the history of slavery, the Confederacy, and the Civil War to be forgotten.
Yankeefa is very unhappy about this. Paging Nikki Haley-
The statues had been standing there through many previous Presidents including Obama without causing any problems at all. This was just another in the pathetic attempts by the hate Trump crowd on the left to gin up a problem where it didn’t exist. The original people that wanted to keep the statues were “good people” who needed to make a point. The neo-Nazis and Antifa crowd were interlopers that turned the whole event into a deadly circus that the media and Joe Biden exploited to damage Trump.
It’s not over until the 9th says its over.
As usual the left has everything wrong. Like the Taliban blowing up those Buddhist carvings in Afghanistan.
Personally, I have no use for Robert E. Lee. But I don’t advocate for destroying the memorial. Today the technology exists to make these memorials more interactive. Instead of trying to tear them down, what people should do is create a variety of different podcasts where visitors to the site - or anyone interested - can click on a QR code or a link and download any variety of different podcast/video lectures about the site, about Lee and Jackson, about the artist and the construction of the memorial etc from a variety of different speakers and perspectives.
Instead of trying to erase history, teach history! Don’t destroy, enhance! There are many things to learn about the man, the war, the history of the site, the artists who made it, the tools they used etc etc. The left is missing an opportunity to do some good and instead to try to just sweep things they don’t like out of existence. Wrong approach.
I give it a month before an ANTIFA type takes an axe to those statues.
Like the ruling. Wonder if it will make a lick of difference in the long run.
The Left does what they want. Screw the law.
A rare judicial decision that separates the law from politics. Hear hear.
I guess there really are good people on both sides.......
I have heard of the indictment and made up my mind to let the authorities take their course. I have no wish to avoid the trial the government may order. In discussion with a pastor he said, Doctor there is a good old book which I read, and you preach from, which says, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you. Do you think that your remarks this evening were quite in the spirit of that teaching? I have fought against the people of the North because I believed they were seeking to wrest from the South dearest rights. But I have never cherished toward them bitter or vindictive feelings and have never seen the day when I did not pray for them.
Note these dearest rights did not include slavery which Lee opposed, because Lincoln had already said at his first inauguration before Lee resigned his commission, the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. Lees determination, and that of most Southerners, was to resist the northern states if they attempted to use the federal government to impose their political aspirations through military occupation of the South.
Wonderful!
Finally a judge with some common sense prevails. Leave the statues alone; they’re not hurting anything. It only came to the forefront of rightful indignation in the last few years when it became de rigueur to be offended by ANYTHING pertaining to the confederacy of 154+ years ago.
If they really have problems remembering the names of those they claim to detest, they ought to put a self-imposed ban on mentioning Hitler....but they admire him despite atrocities that make the slave issue "pale" by comparison (sorry, couldn't help muhself..)
It's never good to hide principal behind technicalities - all the opponent has to do is remove the technicality and you're left with your Johnson in your hand and no position.
Judgement is correct.
