Build the wall" became the unofficial rallying cry of then-candidate Donald Trumps 2016 campaign.
Three years later, amid a series of legal and political setbacks that have raised questions about the project's future, the Trump administration is making a renewed effort to show voters the U.S.-Mexico border wall remains a top priority touting recent construction and vowing to pick up the pace going into 2020.
The purchase of critical strips of private land has cleared the way, they argue, for a new phase. The plan, officials told reporters at a briefing this week, is to construct upwards of 450-500 miles by the end of next year a massive undertaking representing nearly eight times what construction teams have erected to date.
"It's going up fast and we're putting it where the Border Patrol most wants it," Trump said in a video message Sunday. "We're taking money from all over because, as you know, the Democrats don't want us to build the wall they're fighting us at every step."

Grudgingly admit that made me chuckle . . .
And....He listened....to the Border Patrol people and his advisors. I agree with the see through...and love the wire on top. It looks like common sense.
He's done a hell of a job replacing the "useless" walls erected under previous Presidents.....against all odds.
And you can call it anything you want....wall is a generic term...
Notice how a builder thinks....
1) A concept and a plan
2) A quality prototype is tested
3) Legal and Environmental issues
4) Funding
5) Find quality contractors
6) Start executing the plan
Our man for all seasons is about our nation’s business. Thank you Lord.
If it only raises enough $$ for 20 miles of Wall annually, that is 20 miles we didn't have. And if it is 20 miles in critical (high traffic) areas it is equal to 100 miles in non-critical areas. Just do it.
I agree. My question is, can Trump do it without congressional approval?
Illegal alien invaders KEEP OUT ! !! You are unwanted, despised and disgusting . In short...you suck. Losers.
I understand that President Trump is facing treason and other forms of pure evil from totalitarian globalists, so I don’t blame him for how long it has taken to start defending our borders. I am relieved that he is finally making progress on this most basic of all governmental responsibilities.
They say patience is rewarded. No one but Trump could do this. The guy just doesn’t give up. Really good news.
I prefer castle style walls.
NeverTrumpers are deeply troubled.
With a moat and alligators?? ;-)
The swamp denizens in DC expect the wall to be built on a normal federal schedule. Now that Trump has cleared the hack judges, watch how quickly he spends the three billion from the Pentagon and how many miles of wall it builds. Ann Coulter and the left will be shocked. This construction coupled with his Supreme Court sanctioned asylum policy is going to end the Central American illegal immigrant caravans.
He is, but this is hardly a permanent wall.
Most of the wall so far has been replacing other temporary walls, some only 20 years old.
It is frustrating that the President hasn't been able to get the money to build his big, beautiful Wall, made of earth and concrete. A Wall that will last hundreds of years.
Instead we are forced to accept something which is nothing more than a temporary metal barrier. Yes, it will last longer than the previous metal barrier, but temporary never the less.
Our grandchildren will have to fight this fight again.
See my post #17
He's stirred up a lot of debate on the wall and fought the attempts to block it which has made it high profile - none of which as had any effect on his plan.
The logistics have dictated the pace of this project and it's conning in right on schedule
Trump has played the political Blame game masterfully
Be happy he’s doing something.
