An SAS officer armed with a shotgun has killed five jihadis during a dawn raid, it has been reported. The intense fire fight was over in just seven seconds, and quickly led to the militant group's surrender of the stronghold. The covert operation took place on an Islamic State outpost in Baghdad, Iraq. Several other terrorists emerged from the building but immediately surrendered and began panicking as two of the bodies didn’t have heads – they thought they were about to be executed.'

More:
SAS Weapons - Remington 870 Shotgun

The Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is used by the SAS during counter-terrorist operations. The Remington is sometimes carried as a primary weapon but more often a sawn-off 870 is attached to a trooper’s side by PARA cord and used as a secondary.

Aside from standard buckshot and solid slugs, the Remington can also fire hatton breaching rounds and R.I.P. tear gas rounds.
Hatton Rounds

These special 12-guage shotgun rounds are designed for door-breaching operations. The SAS use Hatton rounds to shoot hinges and locks off of locked doors. The Hatton round is a mixture of compressed gun or zinc powder and wax and is formulated to cause only localised damage without passing through the door and hitting a hostage.
R.I.P. Rounds

The R.I.P. tear gas round is a semi-solid slug which can be deployed from a long range. The round is designed to break apart following an initial penetration, whereupon it disperses CS tear gas, filling a room almost instantly and incapacitating anyone inside. The round is sturdy enough to penetrate windows and light wooden doors.

Benellis are not listed as SAS issue. Maybe they were “evaluating” it

The WWI German formally protested US 12 gauge trench guns as barbaric.

Decades ago, we lived in a community of townhouses, and there were some night time hot break ins.

Those stopped when a trap shooter stopped a couple of thugs with his trap gun. The lucky felons were the ones, who were DOA. The unlucky lived for a few days with a load of 7 1/2’s.

The good news, no neighbors living close by were harmed.

5 shots in 7 seconds, 2 of them head shots after evaluating the targets as having suicide vests on... That is some impressive training, because you know that had to be almost all reflex and muscle memory.

I taught Hunter Safety for MI for over 20 years and we would demonstrate what various guns would do cabbage, melons, etc.

They were ‘Wowed’ by what high powered rifles would do, but at the end we showed them a shotgun with 7 1/2 exploding a watermelon to the point it was vaporized. A cabbage becomes instant coleslaw.

Yep. The story goes that the krauts complained to the Hague or whatever organization it was at the time, that Americans caught using the shotguns would be executed. American commanders laughed at them and said that any kraut captured with a flamethrower or serrated bayonet would be summarily shot. Story has it that the krauts dropped the complaint.

I had a Benelli M1 Super 90. It was a great shotgun with one exception. It was the worst kicking shotgun I ever fired. It was actually worse than a light single barrel.

I think they have done all kinds of things to try and lessen the recoil.

The M4 is gas operated and typically those have very light recoil.

I can’t imagine it taking someone’s head off tho.

Apparently the victim didn’t have much situational awareness.

“...terrorists emerged from the building but immediately surrendered and began panicking as two of the bodies didn’t have heads – they thought they were about to be executed.”

Typical muzzie scumbag. Real tough as long as they have the upper hand but shit themselves when they know they are getting their worthless asses kicked.

That here SAS trooper will probably wind up in jail for using excessive force.
