Rand Paul Warns Trump Against “Needless Escalation” Of War

President says he’s ‘locked and loaded’ to attack Iran

As President Trump warned that the US is “locked and loaded” to respond to the drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil supply this past weekend, Senator Rand Paul warned that hitting Iran would be a “big mistake.”

Appearing on CNN, Paul warned that any attack on Iran would constitute a “needless escalation” of war.

“The Iraq War, President Trump has said, was the biggest geopolitical blunder of the last generation,” Paul said.

“It destabilized the Middle East and increased the strength of Iran and tipped the balance toward Iran,” the Senator added.

Paul also had stern words for Rep. Liz Cheney, who earlier in the day proclaimed that the US should deny visas for Iranian diplomats at the United Nations General Assembly meeting this fall.

“There was nothing good about the Iraq war and Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney and John Bolton still don’t get it. They are still advocating for more regime change in the Middle East.” Paul declared.

Lol very well said and so true. Him flapping his gums and saying nothing really, does far more damage than anything good. Ugh, can’t he just shut it for a bit?!

Not our circus, not our monkeys.
No logistic support Saudi Arabia, either, unless they pay for it, and pay well.

““It destabilized the Middle East and increased the strength of Iran and tipped the balance toward Iran,” the Senator added.”

I almost always laugh at him as his theories on political stance are so stupid they are comical. Other times, I realize part of the country voted for him and I’m sad for them.

The destabilizing of a rogue state in the middle east has been going on for a thousand years without our help. What’s another one since we can’t stop them from trying.

We do this in the US. It’s called crime and punishment. And when the crime gets so horrible, the punishment becomes as extreme as the crime to let others know that will happen. And it slows it a little. And a few lives are saved.

Same thing in the middle east. Someone acts out, the US punishes them financially with trade, they escalate, the punishment becomes harder, it reaches a state where countries like the US have to step in and stop it. Same thing in Iraq. Not new.

Did we learn that it won’t change things? Some think that way. But how many lives have been saved to include our country’s in the mean time?

Jimmy Carter did it differently. He sold weapons to Iraq to hit Iran with. But someone is going to have to sooner or later. And thanks to Obama’s actions it is going to have to be sooner. But right now, Trump is doing everything he can to keep from it.

So how stupid is Paul for saying Trump is escalating something? Trump didn’t start this, but together with other countries we may have to finish it. And we can reach going back to square one again before Obama.

What does the Iraq war have to do with this?

If -- and it is a big if -- Iran was responsible for trying to disrupt world oil supply, it needs to be slapped down. Some well-placed bombs, not an all-out war, can accomplish that.

Rand needs an injection of testosterone. He's totally unfit to be ever be President. His foreign policy would be indistinguishable from Bill Clinton's.

Trump has no intention of getting us involved, he will sell Saudi Arabia more of our equipment though to defend themselves.

I could nit pick what he said. I don’t agree the Iraq War was a total loss. But in any case he is right that this is not the reason to engage Iran. NOT for the benefit of the Saudis.

I have warned in the past against our over-reacting to the present Iranian Government, but the precision of the drone strike against the world's largest oil field is not something we can simply ignore! While no one wants to see American ground forces involved, intervention from the air against any more attacks on the world's oil supplies, would definitely seem to be in order.

But please, let us not get back into the fallacies that pervaded the Bush II foreign policy. (Washington"s Answer to To George W. Bush.)

Bush Junior’s PNAC crew wanted boots on the ground in Iraq because their goal was to take over the country, not just to punish it.

The PNAC geniuses had been insisting that Muslim countries could be converted into western style democracies after a proper beating followed by giving them the vote, blue jeans, rock ‘n roll, and bubble gum.

Their bible was Francis Fukuyama’s “The End of History” and a few other goofball books of similar vein that neocons wrote for each other.

Anyway there is no need for us to invade Iran in order to hurt them. Just keep the Bush crew occupied assisting illegal aliens and other things that they like to do, and keep them away from military planning.

Egypt, the Saudis, Israel and the UAE put together their own Gulf alliance in the latter part of the Obama years because they couldn’t count on America with him in charge.

The common denominator in that alliance is their belief with Iran poses a danger to every one of them.

Well, I don’t agree with Rand Paul about much but my opinion could be seen as parallel to his.

Sell KSA some ground doppler radar sets and TLAMs and let the quid pro quo commence.

President Trump met with those leaders plus more soon after taking office. I expected, but didn’t see, him forming an alliance that would do the heavy lifting in the mideast with the US in a support role.
