Kamala Harris wanted to go to a black school. That's what black folks called Howard University in the early 1980s when Harris was a teenager considering her future.

My gut says that she went to Howard University because that was the only law school that would except her. Standards at that school were substantially lower than all other law schools.

Howard was her undergrad school. She want to law school at Hastings College of the Law, a San Francisco branch of the University of California.

People of India are not “black” in the accepted sense, even though some may be of a very dark complexion. Their racial stock is much more closely related to the European, as in “Indo-European”. There is very little black of African origin among the Tamil people of India. The Siddi people are actually much more African in their origins, but they make only a very small part of the overall Indian population.
