The last one, held in April, looked like a victory for Netanyahu and his right-wing Likud party. But when Netanyahu failed to get enough support from smaller parties to form a government, he was forced to call new elections. So here we are.
The polling for the new election is too close to call. Likud is locked in a tight race with the centrist Blue and White party, which is leading the opposition. The ultimate outcome depends on a lot of things that are really hard to predict, ranging from minor party vote share to post-election parliamentary haggling.

Correction: Help Likud.
Likud has two options: if it can gain two of three seats in the raw vote count, it can either form a narrow right-wing government with the haredi and religious Zionist parties or bolster the coalition by peeling off support from the centrist parties of Kachol Lavan.
A third option is a Zionist secular government of Likud, Kachol Lavan and Yisrael Beitenu excluding the haredi parties.
The fourth option are new elections. Last one is a last resort if all attempts to form a government fsil.
Updated Channel 13 poll now has Likud right wing block now at 59 seats. This makes a narrow right-wing government look like a more realistic possibility which can happen should the Likud or allied parties pick up two of the 8 remaining seats.
Yes, they need 61. Entirely possible for the Likud to gain two to three seats in the raw vote count.
Keep praying folks! Bibi could pull this off!
Looks he may jusf pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat again. People have a tendency to write him off. Not so fast.
Exactly!
Arab List picked up 15 seats but with Kachol Lavan and the Zionist left-wing parties that adds up to only 59.
Not enough and Lieberman wont join such a coalition.
Had a doc appt just got home..did BiBi win??
I’ve been trying to watch at Bibi’s FaceBook and at the Jerusalem Post.
I am much happier and much more relaxed checking YOUR updates!
I’m almost positive our dear Israelis will keep our world’s great patriot Bibi in office!
Precisely! Not a chance of Lieberman joining that bunch!
Did you and your Mom vote?
Still up in the air. Until the right wing bloc hits 61, theres no point in claiming victory.
But it could change once the raw vote comes in.
No, my Mom is an Israeli citizen but she hasn’t lived in Israel for ages, I guess if she were there she could vote
So basically the same boat that brought us here..that’s the whole reason for this new election in the first place, not enough seats to form a Govt
She should get an absentee ballot!
More like Lieberman is the spoiler. He wont sit with the haredi parties and they wont sit with him so the Likud would have to find a way to form a government without him or it would have to abandon the haredi parties and form a secular Zionist national unity government:
That or new elections are the only cards on the table.
This is their version of gridlock. Nothing gets done...and that’s not always a bad thing when gov’t is involved.
Kachol Lavan seems to have hit a ceiling. It didnt make a breakthrough in the election last night and it wasnt helped by the dismal showing of its potential left-wing coalition partners. Its frustrating when you win a plurality but forming a government still is out of reach.
