Trump To Slap SF With Notice Of Environmental Violation
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Sept 18

Posted on 09/18/2019 11:46:32 PM PDT by Helicondelta

The Trump administration plans to deliver a notice of environmental violation to San Francisco over its homelessness problem.

President Trump said late Wednesday the notice would come from the Environmental Protection Agency. He said waste, specifically used needles, in storm sewers is contributing to ocean pollution.

He added: “They have to clean it up. We can’t have our cities going to hell.”

In a statement, San Francisco Mayor London Breed said the city has a sewer system that runs effectively, keeping debris from reaching the Bay or the Pacific Ocean.

Here in the Puget Sound, we have several eco-activist group that routinely sue anyone they can when they suspect a violation of the NPDES storm water permits. Every city and county in the state except...Seattle and King County!

The Puget Sound Keepers are currently suing the City of Anacortes for not enforcing development regulations and are asking for $35,000 day fines for the last 5 years!

Largest culprit used to be residential and commercial service lines which were mostly made of clay or concrete or iron pipe

We used to smoke test them for cities to point out leaks

Nowadays folks use PVC which is more durable and roots can’t infiltrate as readily

And as you pointed out....in many older designs storm and sanitary interconnected for overflow and simply some having been built in the old days when just getting sewer and flooding off the streets was the main concern

New Orelans old parts back in the 70s when I did this work still had hogsheads barrels lain together covered in pitch and connected by mortar as sewer lines

200 years old and still working .....running right down Royal street

Landscapers have strict rules they have to follow, or be FINED up the wa-zoo for stormwater runoff. Poopy streets? No one seems to have written the regs on that problem, yet!

“The Fines

Significant monetary fines exist. Anyone contributing to environmental pollution may end up sharing a part of the fine. Regulators prefer to be ‘compliance assistors’, but when they respond to a citizen’s complaint of an illegal discharge, their mindset may be more, ‘the learning curve is over; when is this stuff going to end?’ Fine amounts have been growing as has been the inclusion of lower-tier subs in the citation process.”

Total, worthless bureaucrats!

No we actually do. It’s called a “combined sewer system”, which means that most of the time, what goes into the storm drains does not flow to the ocean/bay, but instead into the sewage treatment facility, and then into the ocean. But that’s only the case when there’s not significant rain, and probably a lot of the stuff on the streets just sits there until there’s significant rain.

Sure, waste water from toilets, sinks, showers is treated however it is very rare that storm water is treated.

I think the mayor well knows that the President isn’t referring to the sewer system, but the storm drain system, which are two entirely different things. He also knows that all the used needles and bum squeezins are being washed down the storm drains that flow directly into the bay.

He’s better at it than they are.

That’s yet another reason why they hate him so much.

Be careful. The whackos Will simply say, “See? Mere human existence is totally responsible for polluting the planet! We were right. We need millions and billions to clean up the mess!” completely ignoring their culpability in enabling the polluters to pollute.

If one San Francisco homeowner put a pipe from his toilet directly out into the Bay, he’s be in handcuffs. Annd yet, SF storm sewers are flushing tens of thousands of persons daily urine and feces, untreated into the Bay.

Declare the human waste infesting San Francisco as a navigable body of water. It’s certainly piled deep enough.

It’s going to happen.

This is a process that is going to unfold naturally.

Kind of a voyage of discovery . First the needles which gets the normals woke, and then the start of the waster quality testing which shows the hepatitis and other serious health threats due to needles

The comes the gross stuff and the threat of the lack of sanitation related diseases ....
