It is impossible to separate the latest attack on Justice Brett Kavanaugh from the political strategy of the Democratic Party. On September 16, two days after the New York Times "Sunday Review" section told of another allegation of sexual misconduct during Kavanaugh's college years, "Axios AM" described Democratic plans "to portray President Trump, Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as the three villains defining the three branches of government for the 2020 campaign." The reasoning: "Each of these white men, they will argue, symbolizes Republican corruption and rule-bending.
Because opinions of Trump do not change, the Democrats have decided to rally their base against the two other "white men." That is why all of the major Democratic presidential candidates except for Joe Biden and Amy Klobuchar called for Kavanaugh's impeachment after the publication of the Times essay. It is why the media gave the accusation, heard by reporters second-hand, saturation coverage. And it is why Ayanna Pressley, member of the Squad, introduced a resolution to start an impeachment investigation

Wow. So true!
I believe the left got this close because of the weakness and fecklessness of Republican leadership over the years. Republicans used to act like "battered wives" after decades of dishonest reporting by the MSM made them cower from power, giving the left free reign over the direction of the country.
President Trump is showing the country what it's like when an opposition fights back. Unfortunately, Republican leaders are still acting like battered wives, who when confronted by police to press charges are afraid to give up whatever place in the relationship they already have, because it's all they've ever known.
Nothing will change, despite Trump's actions, if our current GOP leadership doesn't finally step down and let a new generation take control; a generation that was not raised on the abuses of the Democrats and the media, but were stifled and held back by the entrenchment of the Republicans who refuse to give up their own power that they are still afraid to wield.

In America, journalism is a cartel, unofficially but actually organized by the homogenizing effect of the continuous virtual meetings which are the AP wire (and all other wire services). That political homogenization was inevitable, as Adam Smith would have predicted:People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. — Wealth of Nations (1776)That cartel indoctrinated the nation to the effect that journalists are objective. That propaganda is meretricious because
- objectivity is a hard discipline to attempt, an impossible one to be assured of having attained,
- while it is impossible to be assured of actual objectivity, it is easy to go along and get along with other journalists in a mutual admiration society of journalists who swear to each others objectivity as long as their own objectivity is never questioned by another journalist. Thus, journalists are objective means in practice, journalists never question each others objectivity - and will savage the reputation of anyone who does that - and will expel any independent thinker from journalism with prejudice.
- journalists all know that journalists are in fact on the lookout specifically for news which casts society in a negative light (and thereby promotes the conceit that government should do something"). But knowledge that journalism is systematically negative implies that the conceit of journalistic objectivity implies that negativity is objectivity. And that is a conceit that only a cynic could put forward.
Therefore journalists redefine the meaning of the term objective to mean in accord with the cynical perspective of the journalism cartel. And apply the term exclusively to themselves. Journalists have a word for politicians whose perspective meet the in accord with the cynical perspective of the journalism cartel - in fact, they have several, which go in and out of favor cyclically. Those words are liberal, progressive - and whatever else journalists think will fool the gullible. They are all euphemisms for what the journalism cartel actually promotes - and are used to mean precisely the opposite of their etymological definitions.
So, yes - "The Democrats think they are the Legitimaster - they think that the ideology inherent in journalism cannot be opposed successfully.
People who think this issue will stay with Kanavaugh are totally wrong.
No one will remember this is two years, as it should be.
Pessimists who think negativism is long lasting are only HOPING that it is that way.
It isn’t. Forgotten just as the DeBlasio campaign will be in short order.
