NEVER threaten! Instead of, “If you don’t pay your rent, I’ll call ICE on you.”, or something like that, she should have just made the call, ‘let her fingers do the walking’. Sure, she would have lost some rent, but she would not be out $17k plus legal fees. Theatening someone is the surest way to get sued.
