Interesting. Trump is indeed serious about stopping illegal immigration. Good. One step at the time.

Which means, I assume, they will have to be incarcerated until deported? Where?

Incarcerated? Why?

If they are caught entering illegally, simply turn their asses around and boot them back to the other side. Either that or have buses waiting and as each fills up it takes the illegals back over the border and hands them off to the Mexicans to dispose of.

So they just come back? Take away their freedom. They won’t be sending money back to their family while in jail. Also they will be separated from their family too. LOCK THEM UP. They may think twice before coming back.

Now that I read it...we were both wrong.

“The department said that if migrant families do not claim a fear of return, they will be “quickly” deported back to their countries of origin. But if they do express a fear of return, the families would be sent back to Mexico to await the outcome of their asylum proceedings under the policy known as the “Migrant Protection Protocols.””

Locking them up costs money, let Mexico lock them up

Last paragraph explains it.

The department said that if migrant families do not claim a fear of return, they will be “quickly” deported back to their countries of origin. But if they do express a fear of return, the families would be sent back to Mexico to await the outcome of their asylum proceedings under the policy known as the “Migrant Protection Protocols.”

True. We should lower our standards to the same standards from the country from whence they came.

If they come from El Salvadore and El Salvadore spends $20/year per prisoner...then they get that level prison support here. Or they can choose to go back to their country. Their choice :-)

Good, if they have to wait in Mexico they will be there for YEARS since the back log of cases waiting to be heard is approaching 900,000.

I read somewhere huge numbers of them (waiting in Mexico) have given up and went back home voluntarily.

How about shipping them, by sea, to Tierra del Fuego, and dumping them on the beach? It's just turned Spring, there, and the flowers should be starting to bloom..

There is a cluster of islands, Isla Hermite, Isla Deceit, Isla Grevy. I'd bet we could rent them, cheap, from the Chilean government...

Yep. Good point. It’s an incentive for us to not speed up the asylum process. And when people are waiting a year or two and then they see the few that get heard being denied asylum they will lose faith and go home (or stay in Mexico).

“tax all remittances - watch ‘em flee.”

I’d tax all remittances where proof of citizenship/legal presence wasn’t shown.

Unfortunately I don’t see that passing the House right now.

I think there might be a provision of already existing law that would allow Trump to block all remittances without proof of citizenship/legal presence but I think he doesn’t want to anger Mexico and the other countries too much if he can get them to cooperate with stopping the invasion instead.

Trump has finally decided that the Do-Nothing Senate will continue to do nothing.
