"The Register is aware of reports of inappropriate social media posts by one of our staffers, and an investigation has begun."
When faced with outrage over destroying this man, the paper posted a hand-wringing "explaination" that the reporter had discovered these posts during a "routine background check," and moaned about how they debated whether to disclose that information.
Angry bloggers then did a search of the reporter's posts, and found MANY offensive posts, and now ask whether the Register ever does a "routing background check" on its own employees.
As far as an "investigation," I think that already been done, and not by the intrepid investigative staff. All that's left is spin control, and hoping the public forgets what a bunch of sleezeballs they are.
Read the comments on the twitter feed, it's a hoot.
Exactly what were these “offensive” posts?
I am so-o-o-o-o glad I’m old enough to have graduated college before social media. :)
Appears to be Aaron Calvin.
They’re images at the link, several tweets down now.
Oh heck, I’ve been saying offensive things since I got here
What is this all about? The link does not make it clear.

I’ve seen that Twitter link. What did he do or what do they say he did?
Oooohhh.. it’s bad. N word, busting on gays and women
They are being 99+% HAMMERED against their POS company!!!!
The Des Moines Register just gets worse with each passing iteration. I thought there was no place to go but up when Geneva Overholser left, but I was oh, SO wrong.
The Register ran off its best reporters a decade ago.
Its no longer “the newspaper Iowa depends upon.”
If it ever was...
Wow, the Register certainly did the job that was expected of them.
Guess they’ll just accept the backlash and pat themselves on the back with a couple of awards, and tell us what a great guy Aaron Calvin is.
Perhaps their advertisers need to know what kind of racists the Register hires. Perhaps like Anheuser Busch, they need to distance themselves from the kind of racism the Register accepts among its employees.
From the reporter? Supposedly there were about 100 that he's deleted in panic. Racist, anti-gay, anti-cop. it's a disaster.
Now here's a question - if Anhauser Busch thinks that due to 2 posts made by a volunteer who was thrust into the spotlight with a charitable effort should be disassociated with, what should the DMR do with it's paid reporter?
I miss Liz Ballentine’s great reporting.
Anheuser Busche virtue signaling on this is intolerable.
