Here's my theory.

The Democrat primary debates are not going well. Reaction is negative to the extreme left-wing lurch of proposals that give away hard-earned taxpayer money, and it's just getting worse by the day as the candidate race to out-do each other.
Even this recent Quinnipiac poll shows that Independents don't think much of the Democrat field, with only Biden, Warren, and Buttigieg having a positive like/dislike rating.
Despite liking Warren, Independents think the economy is doing well, not getting worse, and are better off than they were in 2016. It would be hard to motive this group to raise taxes to give away free stuff to illegals, recent graduates, and the non-working.
Independents do not support impeachment 58-34 in this poll.
The only thing left for Democrats is to sweep President Trump off of the ballot, in order to clear the way for whichever Democrat emerges from the primary. If Trump runs, he wins.
And RGB. We're at the 2-minute warning. The clock is ticking on that one.

As long as the polls continue to show that Trump is making improvements that have real impact on everyday people, the Democrats become more aggressive in trying to get rid of him. That's why this is going on now.

China is starting to crack. A trade deal that ends the tariffs may be on the horizon.
Japan made an agriculture deal, India is opening up, Mexico is coming around, even Iran is signaling a change in tactic (which could just be a stalling tactic, but it's movement).
Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania... rust belt union workers are solidifying around Trump as they see the Democrats abandoning them for illegal aliens and Muslim refugees.
And RGB. In 2020, Trump might also get to nominate replacements for Thomas (a friendly retirement at 71), or Breyer (who's 81). Sotomayor has had health scares due to her diabetes, but if RGB can do it...
Trump just needs time, at this point. And time is what the Democrats are trying to steal from him.
