If Trump leaves (not going to happen) Pence becomes President and nominates someone else as VP whom the senate will confirm.

They would have to both leave at the same time.

The writers, Robert Atkins and Adam Frankel, noted that it remains far-fetched that Trump and Pence could be forced from office over abuse of power related to the administrations dealings with Ukraine or other misdeeds. What was the purpose of the article? How many nutjobs will this pull out of the woodwork.

No, both houses of Congress have to vote to confirm a new VP. When Agnew resigned and Nixon was already looking vulnerable, there was talk of the House not voting to confirm Ford, so that if/when Nixon left office, a Democrat would become President and thus undo the 49-state election that the Republicans won. But the dems weren’t willing to do it then, but now?

Both houses have to confirm an appointed Vice President. Pence, if President, would never get anyone past Nancy’s House.
