De Blasio’s New York Slips Toward a Crisis of Crime & Disorder
Judicial Watch Investigative Bulletin ^ | September 25, 2019 | Micah Morrison

Posted on 09/30/2019 6:51:55 PM PDT by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s withdrawal from the presidential race last week is a lost opportunity. A successful de Blasio effort in the Democratic primaries—his was anything but—could have sparked a necessary national debate over signs of rising disorder in American cities.

We haven’t returned to the bad old days of the 1970s and 1980s. The troubles of that era had many causes: disappearing jobs, changes in social welfare policy, changes in cultural attitudes, deinstitutionalization of the mental health system, drug wars, crack cocaine, a surging crime rate—all intersecting to drain the vitality of neighborhoods and stamp countless urban tableaus of Dantean despair. For many of the younger new urbanites, noted the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal, those days are “little more than sensational headlines from a barely imaginable world.”

But it is a world not long gone and one that could return. In New York and other urban centers, warning signs are flashing. Overall in New York, for example, the crime rate is down—way down—from the highs of the early 1990s. But shootings are up almost 8% over the previous year. Gun arrests are up more than 20%. Hate crimes have jumped sharply, a 41% increase from the previous year, according to NYPD statistics. The majority of the incidents—152 out of 290—were anti-Semitic.

Some neighborhoods are seeing an alarming increase in major crimes. In the 10 police precincts that make up the Brooklyn North police command, writes journalist Errol Louis, the first five months of 2019 saw an “8% increase in homicides, 10% increase in rapes and a 20% increase in shooting victims.”

The Third World is well on its way to engulfing NYC. Get out while you can.

The reason why the crime rate is down,in my opinion,is that a lot of them are not reported cause people know that they won’t be solved or the perpetrators caught.

Better job by the braindead NYC voters who elected Comrade DiBlasio not once, but twice. Only because there's a term limit of sorts (two consecutive terms must be followed by a four year break before being able to serve another two consecutive terms) will DiBlasio not be re-elected to a third term in 2021. However, given that those same braindead NYC voters are also responsible for the three miserable gubernatorial terms of il figlio del sfaccim Andrew Cuomo, and partly responsible for foisting Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the rest of the nation, DiBlasio isn't in danger of being succeeded by another Rudy Giuliani or Fiorello LaGuardia.

Thought this was a historical article. Once Giuliani’s stop and frisk was gone, so was the city. “Can’t touch me, cop.”

Just make sure you don’t say “illegal alien” in NYC or you might find yourself $250k poorer.

If it wasn’t real I’d say it would make for a bad joke. Oh wait! NYC has done just that; turned into a bad joke. I feel sorry for the small number of good folks out of 8 million living there.

May be too late. Two terms of DeBlasio has hurt the city. Maybe fatally. Can anyone see a really decent person ever elected mayor again?

DeBlasio is more concerned with guaranteeing that men can go into the restroom after your daughter and protecting illegal aliens than dealing with crime.

“cities are history”

no need to concentrate material, goods, capital or people to get stuff done;

the higher the buildings go up, the more the cost of the infrastructure supporting them rises and the less return on the investment.

no large metropolitan area can yield a return on its munibonds.

Overwhelmingly black on Jewish, just to point out the obvious. This isn’t white skinheads attacking Jews.

Democrats know how to turn a city into a hellhole... ya gotta give 'em that.

De Blasio was elected because it was already too late; his liberal Republican opponent tried to scare voters by reminding them of the Dinkins days, and it turned out nearly half of them didn’t even live there back then.

Cities in the NYC metro area are filled with trafficked foreigners (legal and illegal); for decades they’ve been replacing the Americans fleeing those dumps. Eventually a Republican becomes unelectable, and the Dem primary is “the election”.

I was appalled and embarrassed when I took a visitor from Argentina ( a Catholic priest) to NYC for his first time. My former fave city on earth was dirty and stinky. Sad!
