28-year-old to leave Alberta Hospital in Edmonton 'unsupervised' for outings

A review board has ruled that a mentally ill man found not criminally responsible after killing five young people in Calgary in 2014 can be eased back into the community.

With prior approval, Matthew de Grood will be able to leave Alberta Hospital in Edmonton unsupervised for outings. With added supervision, he can spend up to three days in the city.

The Alberta Review Board has also decided de Grood, 28, will be able to travel within Alberta for up to a week, as long as the trip has been OK'd and he is with a responsible adult.

It also says de Grood could possibly take up residence in a 24-hour supervised group home in Edmonton.

The psychiatrist in charge of de Grood's medical treatment said the man's risk of reoffending is low.

But Dr. Santoch Rai also told the Alberta Review Board that if de Grood were to commit another offence, it would be severe.

This is an abomination of justice... And if this man commits another crime... Dr. Sntoch Rai should be doing the same amount of time in prison as Mr. de Grood.

Insanity. Who makes up this review board, who appointed them?

Will the victims get to ask “How dare you?”

I’ve always said “forget the patient keep your eyes on the doctor”.

That question is reserved for 16 year old future ex-wives from Sweden.

I don't think this isn't going to work well.

Mr. de Grood did no prison time for the 2014 murders. We may assume he will do no prison time for future murders.

Maybe he’ll kill government psychiatrists instead of innocent people next time.

Well gee, Dr. Sherlock, he's already committed five severe offenses so you're really going out on a limb with that prediction, but after saying the risk of reoffending is low, why not, right? You and the review board are already in Wile E. Coyote territory out on the releasing him limb.

The Courts are insane.

They released a killer here in NY and eased him back into society. This sick SOB switched to killing women after having killed two little children.

In a second case in my county, they released a man who had hacked his mother to death. They released him and he killed his sister and set the house on fire. When the cops and fireman came, he killed 2 volunteer fireman. One was 19 I think.

That works out to one year of hospital treatment for each murder.

Will he ask for asylum in the USA?

“The man’s risk of re-offending is low”. Meaning he may or may not ever do it again so let’s take a chance and let him out.

I think that all mentally ill need to be judged guilty and mentally ill.

Why?

Just because one has a mental illness one does not murder.

The people who have mental illness and murder, need to be kept from the general population.

Of course these days it seems that the elites are trying to kill off as much of the general population as they can.

Same sort of thing happened with the person who senselessly murdered CJOH sportscaster Brian Smith in the TV station’s parking lot in 1995. That man was not found to be criminally responsible for what he did (even though the horrible act was used as yet another emotional weapon against law abiding firearms owners) and was initially sent to a mental hospital in Penetanguishene.

Was released a few years later following a hearing that lasted an hour or two and where Brian’s name was only mentioned once or twice and that was at the start of the hearing (as per Brian’s widow who was very upset over that decision as one can imagine). He then proceeded to try to enter the United States at the Peace Bridge crossing near Buffalo and got very angry (as he had stopped taking his medication for schizophrenia) and assaulted a U.S. Border Guard.

Sounds like he killed conservatives.

Our own domestic enemies were in a hurry to put Hinckley back on the streets after he shot a Republican president and others.

John Lennon’s killer will never see freedom again, though.
