Not true.

Buy new (car payments) or buy used for CASH. (Almost new is okay if some warranty still applies)

NEVER make payments on a USED car.

Why? Because you only bought a used car because you can’t afford a new one and you can’t afford a car payment AND repair bills.

A car is not an investment! It’s an expense. You will LOSE money buying a car. With the cost of repairs these days, almost no one can afford them AND a car payment.

We do both. My wife buys a new car every 2-3 years. We don’t EVER pay for repairs. 36 months bumper to bumper warranty (New York State). We never buy tires, batteries, mufflers, or brakes. Peace of mind with no surprise budget buster repair bills.

I drive a used car we bought for cash (cheap). I do all the repairs myself and make no car payments. Even though I had a catastrophic engine failure, I still made out okay because the cheap car was paid for. I bought another one just like it for cash (cheap) and now have a complete other car for parts.
