Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack told CBS News that his company destroyed $5 million worth of “assault-style rifles” to keep them out of private hands. Ed Stack told CBS News during an interview that the millions of dollars worth of inventory was turned into scrap metal. “I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them.”
The Hill: The CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods says that after the company made the decision to no longer sell assault-style rifles, more than $5 million worth of the weapons were destroyed.
In an interview with CBS News that aired Sunday, Ed Stack said following the decision last year to stop offering assault-style rifles, the question of what to with the remaining inventory lingered.
“I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,'” Stack said, adding that the company turned $5 million worth of the weapons into scrap metal.
Dick’s made the decision to stop carrying the rifles following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., which left 17 dead and reignited the national conversation surrounding gun control.
“We found out that we sold this kid a shotgun,” Stack said. “That’s when I said, ‘We’re done.'”

I’m ok with Dick’s destroying the guns as we all know a replacement for ever gun that was destroyed will yet see ownership in the open market. The best part is the fact Dick’s has done their part to insure job security for the workers who mfg. those guns.

Worrying about Dicks is a waste of time, wander into your local gun shop and ask to see an AR rifle. They’ll ask what caliber, gas operated or piston, standard forearm, or free float. Etc etc. A little dick in an ocean full of real dealers. Conserve your energy and money, all Dick’s was ever good for (a question in it’s self) was tennis shoes.

I don’t know. I really think lefty’s are this stupid. Besides do the math. Figure each is a $1000 dollar gun, how many did they really destroy if any? Heck just one of the shops in my area has at least 25 on the rack for sale. 5 gun shops and mine is a small town. Hiccups make louder noise than Dicks virtue signaling farts.
Thats like Ford destroying a thousand SUVs and expecting that a thousand people will not be able to get an SUV. If they think it makes a difference they are dumber than I though. The demand for them will not be affected by their destroying a few thousand guns. The manufactures still got the money and will just make more to satisfy the demand, which they actually contributed to. Also, I bet a bunch of those guns they’re think were destroyed were actually kept or sold by employees.

Indeed. There would be a chop-saw video if this story were true. Until I see one, I'm inclined to think that Dick's wholesale distributor just bought the rifles back and redirected them to other, less foolish customers.

Does BATF have evidence of the destruction? I’d like to see video of the destruction because $5,000,000 is a lot of AR-15’s or a shitload of AK’s and SKS’s.
