One thing you can say about Columbus, he changed history enough that no one alive today would be here if he had failed to exist. Not a one, from indigenous peoples to colonizers. I doubt even “undiscovered” tribes have avoided enough contact to be exempt. Or maybe they would have been “discovered” had someone else explored the new world, which would have eventually happened anyway.
Oh sure, people would still be here, but not you or I. We should give Columbus some “props”, unless we’re self-hating leftists.
Had Columbus never “sailed the ocean blue”,
the New World would have still been discovered in 1500 by ..
Pedro Álvares Cabral
He was a white guy.
And just how much different would the world be today IF a boat load of American Indians had somehow landed in Europe in 1490, then went home to tell of their discovery.
Not much, because they still would have taken home lots of European diseases, and left some of theirs behind. Then they would have been followed by better armed galleons loaded for bear!
Captain Columbus - You are still a hero to many of us! Keep the faith! This will pass someday

The discovery of America is probably the greatest Black Swan event in history. The people Columbus discovered were still in the Stone Age. However, Columbus was still kind of a doofus for believing he’d hit India.
Columbus’ explorations led to the greatest country and society in the history of the world the US. I support a holiday in his favor. The Indians were overwhelmed by a superior culture technologically, militarily, and every other way.
This is what he did wrong:
God bless Vespucciland!
