...they still need the library for reference books. My kid (very well read, exceptional student) has never seen the inside of a public library.
Public libraries are relics. Some of the more institutional ones serve as archives etc., but most local libraries offer very little that's not readily available to anyone at any time.
Most just need to be closed.

Well my grandchildren are kindergarten and preschool age. They love going to the library and my daughter discourages too much electronic distractions on their still developing brains. I agree with children who are older, but my thinking was these story hours are directed more to younger children. I’m not sure how many 12-17 year olds would be interested in “story time” at the library.

But i don’t remember knowing WTH a gay person was until I was 16 and a friend told me a guy I was talking to wanted to know if i liked him LOL
I said “uh, no” :)
As for trannies, I didn’t know about them until I started going to the crazier clubs in the city in my 20s
