What the Democrats fear most is happening: President Trump and his negotiating team are reaching wide-ranging agreements with China that will be a huge boon to the United States.
In an Oval Office press conference yesterday, President Trump and Chinas Vice Premier announced a Phase 1 set of agreements that will be documented over the next several weeks. The video of the press conference is embedded below; Trumps performance was masterful. His many years of experience as a negotiator shine through.
The Phase 1 agreement covers several important topics, including agricultural sales. China has agreed to ramp up its purchases of agricultural products to $40-$50 billionthree times the previous peakover the next two years. Trump joked that farmers will need to buy more land and work overtime. That means, I think, that Democrats can say goodbye to hopes that tariffs would be the issue that could win votes in rural America.
The agreement also opens up Chinas financial services markets to American companies, covers currency manipulation, and addresses some aspects of intellectual property and technology transfer agreements. Phase 2 negotiations will begin immediately.
Many are saying that the Chinese willingness to enter into this wide-ranging agreement shows that they understand impeachment is a joke, and expect that President Trump will be re-elected. In fact,
Trump himself said exactly that in response to a question: They expect that Im going to win. Otherwise they wouldnt sign the deal. Its very simple. If Trump can get our relationship with China straightened out well in advance of the election, with economic benefits becoming visible, the main obstacle to his re-election will, in my opinion, be removed.
Here is the press conference in its entirety:

BLOCKBUSTER HUH?!?! :)
They expect that Im going to win. Otherwise they wouldnt sign the deal. Its very simple. ..
Sure they would. Communist countries sign things all the time. So do dictators. Like the Munich Agreement.
They just don’t pay attention to them.
They will kick and stall and stammer and connive until Trump wins next year.
They CANNOT afford FOUR more years of beatings by that point.
But China is saying this is a very “limited” agreement already.
Trust but verify.
In this case, DONT trust AND verify. Twice.
Trump knows how to handle it and it will all work out in the end.
The Dems are upset, precisely because Trump is succeeding.
That's them trying to save face. Don't trust and verify twice, three times, four times I say! Communists don't give a damn' about agreements. Never have, never will. The Chinese know Trump's going to win alright. They're correct that impeachment is a joke. They'd better make a deal now because after 2020 he's going to be much stronger after getting the HoR back.
In this case, DONT trust AND verify. Twice.
Agree. Anyone who truly trusts the Chinese is a fool. I dont think Trump is a fool and I believe that his strategic plan is to substantially weaken China.
No question, don’t trust and verify twice.
But agricultural sales will be pretty easy to track, the other stuff as well, currency manipulation and IP theft.
In other areas we should not trade with them at all, advanced computer technology, etc....
Keep the tariffs on Steel and Aluminum, certain industries are vital to our national security....
IMO, selling them soy beans and pork is no big deal, but selling advance technology is a no go
Trumps understands win win negotiating—this looks like an excellent plan for both parties.
This is a great deal at exactly the right time to help Trump’s re-election.
Don’t tell Schiff but I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump didn’t wink at Xi and say, but please do me a favor. /s
This president knows what he is doing. Unlike every president since Eisenhower this president knows how to get things done in the real world. With the help of trusted cabinet members and advisors things happen .
Let me first state that I had spent the vast majority of my working life in the Orient. There, that’s out of the way. China is stating this for home consumption. The cultural need to “save face” is very real.
Also, very real is the fact that the Chinese people are hurting on multiple fronts. The price of agri products have sky rocketed since China drastically reduced US imports to they to hurt President Trump with his mid-western base. That failed.
The presidents targeted tariffs had a negative effect on their manufacturing sector and supply chain sector. Many companies have or are actively finalizing plans to relocate.
The swine virus sweeping all across China has devastated their primary protein source. Fortunate timing for Trump.
The HK unrest is causing major headaches for their leadership. No sign of that subsiding anytime soon.
Their devaluing their currency didn’t have the affect they hoped for in countering Trumps tariffs and instead has hurt them financially. Their export sector is screaming bloody murder as they are getting killed in this trade war.
As Trump has known all along we hold the Trump cards. It’s just a matter of time before they capitulate. But, he also knows he must allow them to do so in such a manner as to be able to save face.
Several articles over the past few months have made the point that Trump repeatedly said to the Chinese that stalling wouldn’t work; any deal they could get in a second Trump term would be worse than one they could get now.
So, the fact they’re moving now indicates Trump’s quote is correct - so even the Chinese think (a) this “impeachment” is going nowhere, and (b) all the Dem candidates have no chance.
I hope this means that we can stop pretending that corn makes sense as a fuel now.
I’m not surprised China agreed to buy more agricultural products. They’ve had several significant crop failures. So, it’s buy from America or starve.
They've had some serious problems with African Swine Fever in China as well. Pork is huge in the Chinese, especially the rural Chinese, diet. It's bad enough to have lowered the amount of soybeans they import from the States for feed but now they're going to need to import the pigs that used to eat them.
Better mpg , and a lower cost per gallon.
Lets hope for that. - Tom
The Chinese must be woke to the fake polls and know Trump is going to win
Trust but verify. What China says and what China does tend to be different things.
Don’t forget, Kim Jong Un is part of this deal. He may have watched the Dems in Congress make their move and thought that Trump would be a short-timer, but when Trump wins and keeps the Senate, that will be four more very long years of isolation, with the prospect of Pence to continue after that.
What about Reagan? I wouldn’t exactly consider his administration a failure.
