Dr. Henry Cloud explains it well in “Boundaries”. People with unhealthy boundaries and narcissism say love = total agreement with their opinions and demands. If you disagree, you’re mean and don’t like them. Actively oppose or challenge, and it is only because you “hate” them.
Liberals have co opted this for political purposes. Love = liberal ideology, and you’re an evil hater who just wants to hurt kill people if you don’t go along with whatever they demand at the moment.

The few Christian holdouts were called “haters” in a fictional Bible Prophecy movie (it was VR nonsense but one of the better ones by the LaLonde brothers. I think it was in “Revelation”.)
