A new bulletproof memorial to Emmett Till was unveiled Saturday after the previous sign was repeatedly damaged.
The new sign, made out of bulletproof steel and ten times heavier than the previous one was memorialized Saturday as members of Tills family gathered at Graball Landing in Mississippi. Graball Landing is the site where the 14-year-olds body was pulled from the Tallahatchie River after he was murdered in 1955.
The sign will also be behind a gate and under the watch of surveillance cameras, according to the memorials commission.
Jahan Jones, a reporter at HuffPost, shared a photo of the new signage.

Rosie ODonnell knows fire cant melt steel, so Ill wait for her input.
It is translucent, meaning poly...it will burn.
Sounds like a challenge...
Who are the sick jerks who were damaging the sign in the first place? A 14 year old boy is murdered and people shoot up the memorial sign? Disgusting. Those MFers need Jesus.
I’ve never understood the idiots who feel they have to destroy things, by shooting them or otherwise.
That said, the new sign is NOT going to prove to be “bulletproof”. In fact, it will just be more expensive to repair and replace.
It looks like 3/4” or 1/2” plexi over steel, probably 1/4” AR500 or similar. The dents and spalling will make the sign unreadable even faster than before, not to mention the easily damaged Plexiglas. And calling it bulletproof will just encourage some piece of sh*t to prove them wrong.
Ideally, they should install a sign that shoots back.
Either that or you are seeing reflections off of the steel.
Maybe bullets will ricochet, so in effect, the sign WILL shoot back.
With that out of the way, maybe now it is OK for me to openly wonder what type of sick folk in Mississippi think that shooting you a sign showing where the body of a murdered American teen was fished out of a river is fun. Yes, we can all wax poetic about tearing down monuments of white men and blacks, but all I see here is people defacing a sign showing where a non-political American (I believe Emmett Till was American - even though some then, and now - from both sides of the political divide - couldnt see past the color of his skin) was brutally murdered. He wasnt some general, or some political detainee, or someone sitting on a horse with one leg raised up. He was a kid that was at the wrong place at the wrong time around the wrong people.
One more thing - those trying to pull down monuments of white men are political shills from the Left trying to erase historical figures using misplaced political correctness. Definitely vile people.
Those shooting up this sign are however something different. Something special. Something evil (in its true form rather than just vile). It would be like people shooting at a sign for Amber Hagerman (the murdered 9 year old girl from Texas that led to the Amber Alert for abducted children). Yet another American that was murdered.
Three Black men raped, tortured and murdered my Grandmother’s First Cousin and best friend. She was only 12.
Now the 3 murderers were found and executed. There is some kind of memorial somewhere which includes their names.
The only memorial to the innocent little girl is her tombstone.
I see 1 inch poly & the foliage matching what is above the sign.
The only steel I see are the uprights (posts) & bolts.
Bullet Resistant Polycarbonate which is an alternative to bulletproof glass.
The post says it is steel.
Actually the sign says that he may have been removed from this site. Least they can do is read the damn sign before writing the article.
Then there is the camera, below the sign. Secured to PVC with gorilla tape.
That is the only way we can really be sure. Looking at a picture is probably not going to make clear what we are actually seeing. Though it certainly looks like it is transparent at the top where you pointed out.
As for the camera below, with gorilla tape, it is perhaps just a moisture abatement measure. Can't be sure with the picture provided, and I certainly did not go through the effort of trying to enlarge the picture to get a more detailed look.
Anyway, I was only offering what may be an alternative answer for what you noticed. Not really that important in the big scheme of things.
