We got here because most people have just gone along with the flow. There has only been minimal pushback against the Leftist agenda across our entire society for many decades.
One duckbite at a time.
If someone attacks someone over a principled stand over an issue then they cease to be someone who doesn't care. They become activists opposing that issue.
Perhaps if we had had fewer activists on Free Republic supporting politicians advancing this issue there might be a question as to how we got here.
But in reality there is no question whatsoever how we got here, and you can search this site for threads sourced to Massresistance during Romney's Governorship and look at how much participation there was and what was said to see a picture that makes it all oh so clear.

We got here because the LEFT needs to destroy all normalcy and decency so they can sow chaos and then use the chaos as an excuse to take power.
MAKE NO MISTAKE THIS IS NOT HAPPENSTANCE FOLKS.. ITS BY DESIGN.
The homosexual lobby got smart, ditched the feather boas, nun costumes, and leather gimp masks and adopted cordoroy pants and v-neck sweaters and talked about just wanting long lasting romances with the person the love. Women swooned and ... boom! ... judgement is over, gay marriage is a thing and back out come the feather boas and the nun costumes.
But that wasn't enough, oh no no no. They need to keep advancing the ball. Lifelong monogamous relationships are absolutely not what they really want. So no, that was just step one to a goal. First normalize gay marriage and there goes one cornerstone. Normalize transgender (again, among women who now seem to think it's fun and trendy to castrate their sons), redefine gender as meaningless, then finally then can get to their ideal state: normalization of pedoracy and pedophilia as a healthy expressions of love. Then they will have crumbled society and remade it to their liking, a hedonistic never ending orgy where they get access to your kids with the protection of the law on their side.
I used to think that wasn't possible but women are no slowly embracing permanently disfiguring their children for the sake of looking virtuous and hip so anything is possible.
