Las Vegas Metropolitan Police announced Wednesday they will be suspending a program with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain persons on federal immigration holds.
LVMPD said in a statement that LVMPD analyzed a recent California court decision regarding ICE detention policies and determined "it will no longer honor Federal immigration detainers for civil immigration violations." The program was known as 287-G.
The California ruling specified that ICE was prohibited from issuing detainers in states with no explicit statute on immigration arrests, LVMPD said.
Nevada doesn't currently have a statute approving an arrest for civil immigration violations. LVMPD noted that the decision would likely be appealed in court, but would wait for further direction following the appeal process.
“I am optimistic that this change will not hinder LVMPD’s ability to fight violent crime” Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said in a statement.

Vegas has been controlled by union influence for quite sometime. The city was, and some maintain still is, Mob controlled.
The traditional residents were much more Conservative in the past and this limited, politically, the overt leftism of the political class.
However, more recently California expats have sought to escape the mess they created in their state but, continue to vote in Nevada as they did in California.
The population in Vegas of Californians has increased greatly and they are putting a lot of PC pressure on local politicians. And politicians being who they are cave to the loudest most politically active voices.
Conservatives work, raise families, pay taxes and, want to be left alone. This is admirable but, ultimately will be our demise. Sad but true. We just don’t want the hassle of the constant, ever vigilant work needed to keep our republic.

The Trump immigration policy needs to rely on the Arizona ruling as precedent in reverse: if only the Feds can enforce immigration law, then the Feds should enforce it in every state. The Arizona ruling makes it clear that states do not have sovereignty with respect to immigration enforcement. If local police departments won’t honor fed retainers, cut off all block grants - let the states make up the funding difference. Time to fight fire with fire.
That’s ok, I stopped going there once they added ‘resort fees’ and parking charges. They can keep that crap and there’s plenty of other places around the world to gamble, for those who want to.
Anyway, the PROPER response by Trump should be to send his boys to places like construction sites and farms, and simply round up the otherwise non-criminal illegals in those places (those would be people whose only law-breaking is related to their immigration status), and deport them - while making it clear that those types of people will be rounded up on a regular basis, but only from ‘sanctuary’ cities/counties/states. In jurisdictions that still follow the law, only criminal illegals will be rounded up.
In other words, make it costly for them, politically, to keep their sanctuary policies.

Not like Vegas cops can prevent or solve crimes anyways. Still waiting on the reason for the Mandalay Bay shooting that killed 58 concertgoers on Oct.1, 2017 that they did little to prevent, stop or solve. Just makes Vegas that less safe and my money ain’t going there.
