most likely imho, katie and husband put an ad out on some sex hookup web site for a young unicorn. they provided a brief description of themselves including their age and their ideal candidate age.
they interviewed a couple of candidates. they then found a candidate. they asked what the candidate wanted in return and the candidate responded a monthly allowance. katie quickly figured out or had pre planned a congressional staff position consisting of no formal responsibilities whatsoever, just a generic administrative assistant. she offered it to the candidate and the candidate accepted.
several months of wild threesome — woops, throuple— sex ensued. unicorn received monthly income, essentially for wild sex.
inauguration time rolled by and the focus and sex along with katie and unicorn moved to DC, leaving hubbie behind with kids.
katie jettisoned hubbie for more sex with dashing new forbidden fruit, her male (D) campaign manager. manager assumes the male role in the throuple with unicorn, all in DC, while hubbie continues with the kids at home, alone. this sounds from a distance like a rather good recipe for an eventual divorce.
in politics all are lies, illusions and kabuki. so every divorce, the wife automagically charges the husband with spousal abuse. it is just so convenient. any family lawyer would probably advise it off the bat, along with gaining total control of the joint checking account to head off the husband hiring another family lawyer in simple legal self defense. a sandbagging, an ambush would work the best. complete surprise doing it from a different state (or district in this case) when maximally stressed and distracted.
later on someone (ok the unicorn since the text messages had to come from somewhere) becomes disillusioned with the new environment, and gets homesick or whatever. katie comes down too hard on unicorn: “i’ve given you so much but you are too greedy and not enough givey” or whatever.
Democrats have a political wildfire to put out. abusive husband story— sounds tailor made to order to put out scandal.
a few months from now, katie will get a clean political bill of health courtesy of her hubbie who loses everything in a DC court battle. shotly after, unicorn will be found dead in a ditch. her liabilities exceeded her assets (sorry bad pun) maybe they’ll even get some republican congressman dna from a used coffee cup, and start an entirely new and bogus scandal. katie and new bf find a new dc unicorn (or two; why not?) on the sex hookup website. new admin assistants show up on her congressional payroll but for some not-so-odd reason, never show up in the office.
and we wonder why congress appears so dismal as it does from flyover country (if we only knew the truth...)
