The trouble with “hate speech” designation is of course that somebody decides what it is, and bias always works against whoever they dislike. Southern Poverty Law Center is best known for designating anything biblical or conservative as “hate.”
The law already protects citizens from speech that incites violence, defames or otherwise harms people for unjust cause. It is unfortunately not enforced to protect conservatives. If existing law were sufficient, thousands of liberals would be in jail or they would be silent.

“The view” cows should be the first to be arrested, then Robert deniro, alex Baldwin, griffin and the list is large. But we all know this is for all of us, to shut us up shut us down with the threat of incarceration. What happens when you put to top on a kettle of boiling water?

Socialism is based on envy which is a form of hate so all discussion supporting socialism needs to be banned.

So who is going to decide the difference between rightspeak and wrongspeak?

The author should be stuffed down the memory hole.

Let the debate begin.

No. I see no reason to indulge fascists and their impulses to control others. The First Amendment is a fundamental, non-negotiable part of American society. Arguments that the Internet makes free speech too dangerous are as pathetic as the arguments once made about radio and television making free speech too dangerous once were.

The author of this article is a disgrace, and I'm sad to say I share citizenship in this nation with him. Hopefully he finds some less free nation more to his liking and departs - I'm not willing to curtail my freedoms and the freedoms of my fellow Americans to please control freaks.

It says a lot about the low quality of our government officials when they have traveled all over the world and chatted with countless foreign diplomats and yet those foreign diplomats are still ignorant of why we have a 1st amendment.

Who decides what is hate speech? Speech doesn’t cause violence. Anyone who responds with violence to free speech is an enemy of the Constitution. Erosion of our civil liberties and 1st Amendment rights is dangerous.

Speech can incite violence. Which is one of the reasons there are very limited exceptions to the First Amendment.

That said, speech shouldn’t be used as an excuse for violence. And the responsibility for violence should always be placed on the person committing it.

Calling me a Nazi is hate speech.

Accusing me of white privilege is hate speech.

Calling me a homophobe is hate speech.

Calling me a racist is hate speech.

OK, maybe the law isn’t such a bad idea...

Great! Let’s ban communism as hate speech! Communists hate everyone who isn’t a commie.

When Putin said back in 2014 that there were no Russian troops in Crimea — an outright lie — he knew our media would report it, and we did.

When Putin said this, some American media reported it. Other American media reported the obvious fact that there were Russian troops in Crimea.

The real point is that no Russian media reported that there were Russian troops in Crimea. That is the reporting Putin really cared about. He wanted to keep his own people in the dark.

Not everything revolves around suburban soccer moms in Maryland.

Not every bit of free speech is good. That has never been the test. The point is that if free speech is suppressed, the people doing the suppressing will be able to control what people know. This is dangerous. There is no amount of suppression of the truth that is a good thing, and it is impossible to suppress speech without also suppressing the truth.

This is pretty basic stuff.

See, this is exactly why — when the News Misleadia calls for the abolition of the Second Amendment, and conservatives sardonically threaten the First — I object.

The liberals ABSOLUTELY WANT TO DO AWAY WITH THE FIRST AMENDMENT TOO.

Rather than a Hate Speech law, America needs the destruction of The Washington Post’s offices and presses.

Progressive rabble rousing is much more destructive to America than undefinable hate

Even the most sophisticated Arab diplomats that I dealt with did not understand why the First Amendment allows someone to burn a Koran. Why, they asked me, would you ever want to protect that?

Because some stupid judge decided that action(s) is(are) the equivalent of speech. So if you can burn an American Flag, you can certainly burn a Koran.

With public sentiment nothing can fail.
Without it nothing can succeed.

When Democrats bring Pedophile Drag Queens into our schools and libraries to actually do violence our children, teaching them the rudiments of perversion, it’s time for violence. When these deviants roll around on the floor hugging and affirming them in a sexual context, it’s past time to get violent. If they do this in your community stop them; by any means necessary; put an end to the moral rape of the young hearts and minds of the precious little ones that G-d has given you. When they shriek, “It’s my free speech!”, tell them to repent. Give no quarter; no one inch! Be courageous and strong.

Speech cannot CAUSE violence. That’s a stupid loser’s way to avoid responsibility for one’s own actions.
