House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have moved forward with an impeachment resolution but not all House Democrats are on board.
Democratic Rep. Jeff Van Drew (N.J.) said Tuesday he hasn’t been supportive of impeachment efforts.
“I would imagine that I’m not voting for it,” Van Drew told a reporter from NBC News.
NEW: “I would imagine that I’m not voting for it,” Dem @CongressmanJVD says about the impeachment process resolution the House will take up Thursday saying he hasn’t been supportive of impeachment all along.— Alex Moe (@AlexNBCNews) October 29, 2019
Van Drew represents New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District, which President Trump carried over Hillary Clinton in 2016, 51-46 percent. And this is not the first time he's spoken out about his reservations on impeachment.
"Everybody says, 'Be on the right side of history' — I think the right side of history is not to impeach," he recently told NBC News, noting that the best way to move forward is by letting voters decide in the 2020 election. "For God's sake, it's a year!"
"Impeachment, first of all, will fail because it's not going to go through the Senate," he continued. "So, at the end of the day, President Trump will still be the president...and he'll still be the Republican candidate."
President Trump praised the Democrat last month for bucking the push in his party to impeach.
....we are going to have an Election very shortly.” Rep. Jeff Van Drew, Democrat of New Jersey. @foxandfriends Thank you. Just another Witch Hunt by Nancy Pelosi and the Do Nothing Democrats!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2019
According to Fox News, Van Drew is likely not alone.
Democratic Reps. Kendra Horn from Oklahoma, Joe Cunningham from South Carolina and Anthony Brindisi from New York -- who all won GOP districts last year but remain vulnerable Democrats in the House -- said they are skeptical of impeachment and hedged about the vote to frame the impeachment inquiry.
Similarly, Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn., who clinched 52 percent of the votes in two consecutive elections between 2016 and 2018, is at risk of losing his seat next year in a district that Trump dominated by 31 percent in 2016.
A vote on the resolution is expected to take place on Thursday.
The DEMs will selectively pick those who can vote No because they want to retain the seat, but rest assured, if they vote on impeachment it will pass.
35 to 40 Democrats represent districts won by Trump. Democrat leadership is asking them to commit political suicide.
Such as an easy vote and it should be a slam dunk, right? Not so fast.
As for Republicans in the House, any that would vote for this usurption and abuse of the Constitution and separation of powers principle need to be voted out ... regardless of how they may stand and vote on other matters. None is as important — as critical to the survival of our Republic — as the Constitution!
Apart from Never Trumpers, this vote is going to break down along party lines, robbing the process of both credibility and legitimacy.
Its going to backfire on the Democrats.
A republican Held his seat for 24 years before 2018. I twill be a phony vote.
Southern New Jersey is red with a few exceptions where ferals and illegals cluster. Cape May County is in his district which is mostly conservative except for the moonbats in the town of Cape May.
Likely ? That sounds like yes
Unfortunately its because of heavily populous north NJ Is why Democrats own the state.
Mikie Sherrill, freshman dem congresswoman representing Morris County, NJ, will regret her support for impeachment come re-election time. Unless the NJ Republican Party blows it.
1. In-migration of wealthy Democrats from New York City and Philadelphia.
2. Out-migration of Republicans to states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Texas ... where their jobs are being moved.
As Nancy will explain to the Democratic rebels, it is NOT an Impeachment resolution, it is a resolution that on process that tries hard to look like an impeachment resolution, but is not.
If you want to see a real impeachment resolution, look at the one sponsored by Green that the House voted down. It spells out what it considers crimes and why they are an impeachable offense.
After Nancy “educates” her flock, and parses some sentences for them, they will vote for the illusion of impeachment.
Unless the NJ Republican Party blows it.
NJ Republican Party are the masters at blowing it.
They make the national republican party look competent
NJ red Trump counties in 2016. State divided north of I-195, south of I-195
North - Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Monmouth
South - Ocean, Gloucester, Salem, Cape May
Look at Somerset County. Formerly reliably red but now purple at best due to influx of New Yorkers and Asian Indians who tend to vote dem right now but perhaps not for long since many are upwardly mobile, entrepreneurs, and often very opposed to radical Islam.
Pelosi will exempt a few Dems from voting for the resolution. Handpicked exemptions based on voting district trends.
