Is California Becoming Premodern?
Townhall.com ^ | October 31, 2019 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 10/31/2019 3:55:21 AM PDT by Kaslin

More than 2 million Californians were recently left without power after the state's largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric -- which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year -- preemptively shut down transmission lines in fear that they might spark fires during periods of high autumn winds.

Consumers blame the state for not cleaning up dead trees and brush, along with the utility companies for not updating their ossified equipment. The power companies in turn fault the state for so over-regulating utilities that they had no resources to modernize their grids.

Californians know that having tens of thousands of homeless in their major cities is untenable. In some places, municipal sidewalks have become open sewers of garbage, used needles, rodents and infectious diseases. Yet no one dares question progressive orthodoxy by enforcing drug and vagrancy laws, moving the homeless out of cities to suburban or rural facilities, or increasing the number of mental hospitals.

Taxpayers in California, whose basket of sales, gasoline and income taxes is the highest in the nation, quietly seethe while immobile on antiquated freeways that are crowded, dangerous and under nonstop makeshift repair.

Gas prices of $4 to $5 a gallon -- the result of high taxes, hyper-regulation and green mandates -- add insult to the injury of stalled commuters. Gas tax increases ostensibly intended to fund freeway expansion and repair continue to be diverted to the state's failing high-speed rail project.

Bookmark.

If only pre-modern in this context meant returning to our (Catholic Spain) Christian missionary heritage. Which is what we need before we can move forward again.

Democrats are incompetent when it comes to governing. In an engineering, law or medicine trade they would be hung out to dry for malpractice. As it is they somehow seem to get re-elected. Because the one thing they have perfected is something that would never enter our minds-election fraud.

Most probably, the American people, as a group being brighter and more capable than most Democrat legislators, politicians and judges, are being abused by voter fraud. The American people are NOT electing these Democrats in the numbers across the country in local, state and federal contests that finally prevail after the ballots are counted.Americans are more competent than that.

MOST Democrat election wins most probably involve “voter irregularity”. There just is NO reasonable statistical way by which virtually EVERY SINGLE closely contested US House race was won by a Democrat in 2018.

And we lay back and take it. Generation after generation.
Until we have a California third world mess in our back yard. Until the only way to prevail may well be the 2A route.

What kind of an idiot does it take to try to invent a new word for something long defined.

Has California become socialist?

Democrats have destroyed the once great, number one state in the Union. California. I have no felling of compassion whatsoever for any Californian...you all voted for this low life scum and vermin and now you getting exactly what you voted for...have fun with your burnt out properties and Homeless druggies, used drug needles, feces, strewn on the public sidewalks, illegal immigrants, their murderers, their drug Lords, their rapists, their child and female sex traffic. California, Democrats are doing a magnificent job governing your state...keep on voting for them and stop crying to the rest of the USA...you brought this nightmare on yourselves...period. End of story. All of you got just what you voted for, a burnt out, failed, state!!! LMAO!!!

California isn’t waiting to be bombed back to the Stone Age.

They’re taking action to do it all by themselves!

Cali has been becoming more regressive and repressive for over 3 decades; probably more.

If it was a wounded animal, and the similarity is striking, it would be put out of its misery.

Keep voting Democrat? Then like what you get. They have a lock, so they can do ANYTHING they want and get away with it including sending the citizenry back to the 19th century. I wonder how far this will go?

1. Remove deadwood from forests, esp. near populated areas.
2. Cut firebreaks.
3. Institute a system of controlled burns.

These steps are common knowledge in Forestry and pretty much every state in the union manages to accomplish them.
But not California!

California is simply reflecting its changed demographics. A 3rd world population means you are in the 3rd world. Things like keeping the electricity on is a challenge in such places. All of this was unthinkable a few decades years ago. Well, things have changed. It’s not 1965 anymore.

Funny how progressives’ actions result in regression.

Will he rise to the challenge to defeat the oppressors?
