That’s false - they very clearly voted out Churchill in 1945 and voted him back in in 1950. They were far from silent.

What are you talking about?

The British Empire was bankrupt in 1945 due to the war and Lend-Lease.

a large part of Truman and Eisenhower’s policy was de-colonization.

But more than that, the Brits couldn’t hold on to their empire - and they generally knew this and got out while they could still retain relationships with the ex-colonies. Witness how they left India in 1947. If they hadn’t, it would have been a worse Vietnam.

Then the Suez crises in the 1950s when the USA very clearly was AGAINST the Brits - the Brits knew they couldn’t hold on to the illusions of empire any more.

You really, really want to call the generation that fought the Nazis as, I quote you “ignorant, useless bastards”???!

The US umbrella was and is immeasurable in the way it has protected countries from Western Germany to Italy from the Soviets.

But the EU has brought about the peace within Europe.

See my post #16

The opinion polling happened recently not in 1945 or 1950.

Furthermore, a national election where everyone votes by secret ballot is not at all like a public opinion poll.   Remember President Trump was elected when all the polls said he would not be.

They were so socialist they nearly turned the UK into a communist country.

These are the greatest generation - the ones who won the war against the Nazis. Calling them just “geezers” is insulting to them.

The BBC has given plenty of exposure to pro-Brexit views: but the print media (specifically Telegraph, Mail, Sun, Times, Express) are overwhelmingly pro-Brexit, and always have been. The only anti-Brexit daily newspapers are the Guardian, Independent and Mirror: but their combined total circulation is dwarfed by the others.

How many of the oldsters actually “won the war”? If you were under, say, 17 in 1945, I’m not going to credit you with having defeated the Nazis. So, if we’re talking about “the greatest generation,” then we’re talking about those born in 1928 or earlier who are now 91+. Fine, I’ll give those folks a pass and just call the 70-90 crowd “geezers.”
