Maybe they would rather have the wall and guard towers back, along with the Stasi.
Some Germans may not want the statue, but I meet many German tourists of all ages at my little air museum here in the Florida Keys, and they know what The USA has done for them over the years since WWII!
Even German school children have been taught about the Berlin airlift. Their grandparents were the little German kids who received treats from the American "Candy Bombers."
They still have the Stasi- in the Chancellors office.
