Relatives of mine actually use this argument, blaming G-d for the Holocaust, and thereby claiming that G-d is monstrous and evil.
Tell them to read Viktor Frankl's
Man's Search for Meaning. If they read it will an open mind, it might reveal just how complex this relationship between God, the Jews, and the Holocaust really is (as usual, God is beyond human understanding--WAYYY beyond).
