Kind of take away from the government overreach where it’s more convenient to wrest one’s home from them for less than a $10 debt than to maybe send someone out to ensure he understands....taking property for very minor tax arrears is just legalized theft and immoral to boot.
Read the entire article. It isn’t that simple. The governments are barely following the law and it is very clear their goal is to seize and sell as much property as possible.
In most places (for the time being anyway) when property is seized and auctioned for back taxes, the property owner is given the excess after taxes and costs. The fact that the governments in Michigan are allowed to keep ALL the revenue is essentially proof that this is nothing more than legalized theft. Taxes are an excuse to steal property.
