Even though I am more likely to agree with what Don has to say on something, as opposed to disagreeing, he has a habit of going off on ideas like what he discussed last Saturday and it likely does not come out the way it should. I’ve not watched Hockey Night in Canada for years as it is overproduced and over the top, with all of this CBC arrogance about the Saturday night tradition. And Cherry and his antics are to that extent part of that sort of thing.
I am certainly not a PC nanny, but will continue to exercise my democratic right to prefer to watch the Sunday afternoon NBC games come January as they give a game straight and that’s it.
Howard Cosell had a similar problem.
Howard Cosell had a similar problem.
Right.
Back in the ‘60s, I read a series of paperbacks like “Mandingo”, “Drum”, etc. They dealt with black slavery in the South.
Slaves were selectively bred for fighting (like Hispanics do for their cockfighting events).
Physically superior males, as well as lighter colored males and especially females (quadroons, octaroons) also brought a much higher price at the slave auctions.
Don Cherry should turn around a file a $500-Million-Dollar wrongful termination lawsuit against SportsNet for violating his Constitutional Right of Freedom of Speech.
No legal statute ever outlawed these 2 words. How can he be fired for saying something that’s legal??
And SportsNet is currently struggling for viewers, so he’d have some leverage ...
I’m not trying to be argumentative.
I didn’t know Canada had freedom of speech.
I’ve read postings in recent months that indicated Canada was like England; where saying something not politically correct could result in monetary fines and/or jail time.
No constitution in Canada.
True. He also pointed out how ungrateful they are. It is always amazing how some people come to a country & complain & denigrate it.
Any person who gets taken in by another country should be full of grace and thanks to their new country. If you can’t, GO BACK!
I said it back in 92 with Perot, Ill say it again today ... you people = group of people.
Not darn thing racist about it. Good grief.
No. He’s talking about immigrants. Not Kalifornians.
I guess this means the Italians can no longer say
YOUSE GUYS????
Only people with chips on their shoulders and are racists themselves think “you people” is a slur. I’m sure they don’t consider ME their people! This world is so tight-assed now people forget to laugh anymore.
‘Howard Cosell had a similar problem.’
yeah, he loved that ‘little monkey’ just a little too much...
I remember the black NFL players didn't think Snyder's remarks were any big deal - that he was just telling the truth and saying things that Malcolm X had also said - but the white liberals were the ones who lost their minds and demanded Snyder's termination.
“You people” could easily refer to white uber-Liberals in Canadian cities who don’t respect those sacrifices either.
Do some research...

Even if Snyder was dead wrong, is being wrong a firing offense, particularly when he was not speaking as a CBS commentator but as a private citizen asked to be interviewed?
“During the broadcast, he made divisive remarks that do not represent our values or what we stand for.”
They love to use the word ‘values’, but then they have really DIFFICULT time explaining just what they are. We know, of course, free speech is not one of them, for example.
In this case, what ‘value’ is he not representing, the ‘value’ of immigrants trashing their host country? I guess.
