Nah, Cosell was a good little liberal, so he could get away with it.

Besides being offensive, the Greek was just wrong on the facts. I've never heard of ANY slaveholder having a 'breeding program" as Snyder opined. He mixed up the Nazis with Southern Slave owners...

From your own source.
"Skeptics maintain that reports from witnesses were apocryphal, and never specified a particular place in which breeding practices were alleged to have occurred"
The rest of your sources are garbage options from modern "historians". The only thing close to a 'breeding program" was the slave owners buying healthy individuals who could do the work and, yes, they were put together and yeah, otherwise healthy individuals in close quarters tend to have sex. And yeah the slave owners knew this but that hardly makes them a "Dr Mengele" with detailed lists of desirable detailed sorting out each slave to get the best traits.
And no, I don't think the Greek should have been fired for stating a private opinion on his own time. I'm not a leftist agitator!

Another from your sources.

One planter, Bill Alford of Mississippi, first purchased Jacob Dickerson. Shortly after, he bought Sally. When he brought Sally home, he said to Jacob, I brung you a good woman, take her an live wid her. The couple consented, and according to their son, lived contentedly thereafter.2
The couple consented
Arranged marriages were not uncommon for even European couples, so much for the breeding program....

Howard Cosell had a similar problem.

Don't be too sure. Nobody was as meticulous as the Germans. There was no eugenics program, but buying slaves who seemed strong and pairing them together was part of the system. Not all slave owners arranged couplings, and the theory that it explains Black achievements in sports is loopy, but slave owners got rid of those who were fragile or infertile and encouraged the strong and sturdy to produce children who would be strong and sturdy.

Fair enough. When they were taken from Africa, the bigger, stronger slaves were in greater demand. In that way, it became a de facto breeding program, just as with horses.
Given the sensibilities of 200+ years ago, Snyder had a point whether it was organized or not.

One must go Darwin with the slave issue. The weaker tribes were fed into the slave trade by their larger stronger rival tribes. And only the strongest individual members made it across the ocean to the Americas where the healthiest survivors were sold to highest(and most knowledgeable) bidder. Where they worked sun up to sun down.
That they survived to mating age was a testament to their stamina, thus no actual “breeding program” was necessary.
And to breed a large man or woman meant you had to fed a large individual as well. Expensive to fed an large man when you only needed a healthy individual to pick cotton or hoe tobacco.
Not to mention the danger of a huge man who naturally had acces to farm tools that were dangerous even in the hands of a small individual.
This is why a northern Yankee of Greek extraction who never did a lick of hard work under a southern sun should pontificate about topics he has no education about.
