As folks get older their brains shrink a bit. Minor trauma can tear small “bridging veins” that are stretched across the gap. The blood accumulates slowly producing a “sub Dural hematoma” which is almost always insidious. 2-3 weeks later the patient begins to have symptoms. Cognitive loss, paresis, etc. Recoveries are partial. Recurrences frequent.

This part happened to Jammy back in about 1960 when his sub came up too fast.
