Not likely, the Chinese generally aren’t boat-rockers. Maybe if something caught on with students/universities, but even that’s a long shot of occurring.
Ideally, in the “should have” category, Britain should have told China the HK handoff deal was off when Mao took over, since the agreement was made with the defunct Qing Dynasty government.
