---there is so much wrong with this , I don't know where to start but the dunces who wrote it must not know about federal law on "straw purchasers"--

"Specifically — among other reforms — the plaintiffs are calling for the creation of a “do not sell” list that generally would prevent people who have bought a gun that was used in a crime from buying another. That change in the law could cut down on the number of straw purchasers who buy firearms for others who can’t legally buy a gun on their own. "--

there are something like half a billion firearms already in Americans’ hands
(depends on which estimate one reads, some are as low as 300 million.. no matter...its impossible to ever steal or confiscate them all, and especially since most American citizens would not even think of cooperating with such a dangerous and un-American scheme)

"...gun violence in some neighborhoods causes psychological harm to children..."

...the ones that don't actually get shot, that is.

While you’re at it, oh clueless lawmakers, declare Pi to be equal to 3.0. Idiot studies majors will applaud while scientists will do the head palm.

Get the guns out of law abiding citizens. That should end the gun violence.

It would seem to me that Chigago has strict gun control laws and a missive crime problem, while other places in IL and around the county do not have these same problems.

Strange idea to libs, send in PD to go after the criminals and arrest them. Then have a DA with a spine prosecute them and lock them up for a long time, repeat as necessary.

Eliminate the root cause of the violence.

(Hint: It isn’t the guns)

...when someone’s Firearm Owners Identification Card has been revoked, the Illinois State Police will make a full-bore effort to collect that person’s guns and FOID card.

Oh, man, that's gonna hit those gang bangers hard. /s

Why don’t they just make it illegal to shoot someone? Make more places gun free zones. Do SOMETHING!

“Illinois State Police will make a full-bore effort...”

The irony of using a phrase like “full-bore” effort must be lost on them

How about JAILING the people who use guns in commission of a crime, using the statutes already on the books? Then there is the option of removing the worst troublemakers to some distance from the neighborhoods where they have been plying their trade, and keeping them dispersed from each other.

The authorities mostly already KNOW who the troublemakers are, it is only the task of rounding them up, checking for outstanding warrants, and either putting them in exile from their home grounds, or indicting and convicting them to the full extent of the law.

The second part of the program should include the introduction of an educational program for kindergarten through high school, to familiarize youth from ALL backgrounds with the basic facts of and about firearms of all types, at age-appropriate level. Identification of the various types of pistols, rifles, shotguns and other sidearms would be at the first level of education, then in progressive succession, the care, feeding, grooming, and the SAFE manner of handling these devices follows. Once the basics are in place, then training for skill in aiming, firing and accurate targeting of objectives comes at the high school level, with some of the youth going into competitive shooting on organized and dedicated firing ranges. This has a three-fold purpose.

First, identify those youngsters who have a pathological fear of guns altogether. These kids should be steered into a program of how to avoid, evade or escape from situations where there may be an active shooter. As a final precaution, should the worst case ensue, also either embed an RFID chip, or tattoo the individual’s name and serial number prominently, so identification later may be quicker.

Secondly, identify at an early age those who have overly aggressive tendencies, and proclivities toward bullying or dominating their peers or authority figures. Get these individuals into counseling and/or psychological treatment, until they either are demonstrated as unfit to EVER handle a firearm of any kind, or they have resumed a more acceptable frame of thinking.

The third group, those who go on to become proficient in the handling of sidearms and have the moral persuasion to do so, should be given the full range of instruction so they are certainly capable of self-defense, or take their talents to apply to law enforcement or military training, proving to be an overall asset to their locality and nation.

Make no small plans.

It doesn’t really make much difference in any case because they prosecutors seldom if ever prosecute felons for possessing a firearm.
