There was a bugle playing taps and a 21 gun salute at my father’s burial.

Standing there in the cold, I remember the silence before and after. It was heartbreaking.

Same at my father’s funeral. I appreciated it, and the young men who performed it, very much. It’s pretty much all I remember of that day.

Been there, done that nineteen years ago. I still remember it like yesterday.

My dad’s as well at the Santa Fe national cemetary. Tough? You bet. Been 40 years now.
