Democratic Attorneys General Association to Impose ‘Abortion Litmus Test’ before Endorsing...

FULL TITLE: Democratic Attorneys General Association to Impose ‘Abortion Litmus Test’ before Endorsing Candidates

The Democratic Attorneys General Association announced Monday that it would only endorse candidates who publicly pledge to defend and expand access to abortion, becoming the first national party committee to establish such an explicit test.

“Attorneys general are on the front lines of the fight for reproductive freedom,” New York attorney general Letitia James said in a video promoting the announcement. “They have the power to protect your rights.”

Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum of Oregon, who is a co-chair of the committee and seeking re-election next year, said that current political realities require that attorneys general take the lead in protecting unfettered access to abortion.

“State attorneys general are now on the map as taking the lead when it comes to Democratic values,” Rosenblum said. “We are going to be the ones to be right out in front and hopefully the other committees will follow right along.”

While only one of 27 current Democratic state attorney generals — Jim Hood of Mississippi — is considered pro-life, Louisiana governor John Bell Edwards won reelection on Saturday in a hotly contested race after campaigning on a pro-life stance.

Former senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, who served two terms as her state’s Attorney General and lost her Senate seat last year after voting against the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, told the New York Times that she thought the move was “wrongheaded.”

“There are very principled people, who are Democrats, who feel very strongly about this issue for religious reasons and when you say you’re not welcome in our party I think it is exclusionary,” she said. “You have to look at the totality of a candidate.” 11

In response, the Republican Attorneys General Association released a statement condemning the move.

““The only litmus test for an attorney general should be a belief in the rule of law and the courage to defend and uphold the constitution,” it reads. “The Democrats demonstrated once again how out of touch and desperate they are to receive funding from dangerously progressive special interest groups who support using hard-earned taxpayer dollars to fund late-term and third trimester abortions.”

Patriots are reminded that, in stark contrast to the rights that the Founding States expressly protected in the Bill of Rights and other amendments that the states later added to the Constitution, the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect the politically correct “right” to murder unborn children.

In other words, the phony constitutional “right” to have an abortion was scandalously legislated from the bench by pro-abortion activist justices, corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification career lawmakers later exploiting this fictitious constitutional right by providing unconstitutional federal funding for abortions to effectively buy votes to stay in power.

Might as well ask them if they’re Jewish while you’re at it, since you’re going to discriminate against eligible candidates anyway.

This tells you totally who the baby-killing democrats really are. Your vote for a democrat makes you as bad as they are.

The entire democrat party does this! If you oppose abortion, you are ostracized! The “litmus” test is applied to every Supreme Court nominee, and determines how many lies are brought forward to get him kicked out.

I thought the litmus test was about acid/alkali?

I guess it has escaped notice that it is not the job of a state’s attorney general to be either pro or con on abortion. The job is to enforce the law and provide legal advice and assistance to state government.

They are not at liberty to pick and choose which existing laws they are going to enforce. They are also not suppose to give advice or assistance which is counter to those laws. Though there have been a number of AGs who have done just that.

Requiring a litmus test ought to be grounds for censure by the ABA but that is not going to happen. The simpler solution is reject Democrat candidates on the ballot.

The “litmus test” should prohibit advocates for abortion from holding public office. That includes teaching offices in public schools and universities. They are enemies of cicility and ought to be dealt with as such.

It’s too bad the mother of LaTitty James didn’t have an abortion.
