The United States government has failed to stop China stealing intellectual property from American universities and lacks a comprehensive strategy for dealing with the threat, a congressional report concluded on Monday.
The report said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) should be more effective and consistent in warning colleges and universities about the threat of Chinese economic and industrial espionage.
It also said agencies that award research grants or provide visas for scientists did not do enough to monitor or track the recipients, and said universities themselves must do a better job identifying foreign funding sources and conflicts of interest among the scientists on their campuses.

Many of the professors at my son’s university are either Chinese or Indian nationals.
The Americans in charge of doing something about this are probably compromised or bought off and the Chinese will carry on as usual.

Has anyone at Free Republic heard about any USA college demonstrations against the Chinese Communist Party for its violent repression of Muslims in the northwest provinces and of Chinese students in Hong Kong?

The US government has failed at anything. The US government has invited the fox into the hen house and held the door open for it for decades. It isn’t theft when you give it to someone.
As for the colleges and universities, find out what kind of research is being done. If anyone working on the project is on a student visa, from China, cut off all funding until they’re gone.
Want to stop this, stop handing out student and research visas to ANYONE from China. When the collective heads of China’s R&D(ripoff & duplicate) hierarchy explode, invite them for a site down and explain that they have no original ideas, they just steal everything and show them proof. And for that, they much now pay.
Look at one of the planes they most recently built. It looks like an exact replica of the F35. Gee, I wonder where they got that idea from.
Shut down all their Confuscious Institutes across the country. When they protest just say that the US, in addition to new trade deals, wants parity and would like to open the same types of offices at all Chinese Institutions and colleges. Lets see how fast they agree to that. If they don’t....See ya. The Chinese were given the keys to the kingdom decades ago.
Chinese students have been engaged in espionage in universities for a long time. I exposed one incident, probably 15-20 years ago. I worked in a power plant, and one of my co-workers said at a staff meeting he hired a Chinese student. I asked if she was from Red China or Taiwan. He said he thought Red China.
A few weeks later I stopped in to see my co-worker. He wasn’t there but his student was. She had a detailed schematic of a printed circuit board on the screen. I reported it to my co-worker and our boss and asked if that was something that she should have been doing. The answer was no.
They let her go. Whether or not they went beyond that, I don’t know.
Not an enemy.
I lived in China, just after they opened to the western world, first in Beijing then in Taipei. I speak a bit of Chinese, but write much less. To tell the truth, my Chinese is even now, much better than my Vietnamese.
I do not consider Chinese an enemy, but they are becoming exactly that.
Our relations with the country, have been DISASTEROUS.
Awful.
I now think, we very well may be becoming exactly that.

Our trade policies have created an awful, powerful, capable nation with five times our population, almost ZERO acceptance of American life, and an incredible desire to become ever stronger.

Yes, the recent fake “Cold War II” with Red China is just theater for us little people. We modernized Red China with our trade by developing them as our 19th century sweatshop, train - AND HIRE - their professionals, then feign anger when they rip off our technology.
Our elites don’t view Red China’s oppression of its people and intimidation of its neighbors as a negative thing; in fact, our software companies designed much of the software they use to control their population. Our elites ENVY their leadership, and are openly trying to implement the same measures here.
