The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday gave sign-off to two nominees for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in party-line votes, moving both a step closer to confirmation.

All 12 Republican Senate Judiciary members voted to forward the nominations of Southern California prosecutor Patrick Bumatay and former Nevada and Montana solicitor general Lawrence VanDyke to the full Senate. Committee Democrats, citing Bumatay’s lack of appellate experience and questions about VanDyke’s qualifications and ties to Nevada, voted against both nominations.

When these two are confirmed, Trump will have fifty Circuit Court nominees in just under three years.

Fifty!

Obama had fifty-five in EIGHT years!!

John McCain was co-sponsoring a bill to break up the ninth and create a new district. One of the few good ideas he had (well, other than marrying into millions).

Did this idea die with him? anyone know?

“Did this idea die with him? anyone know? “

I suspect it died before he did.

It would be better, I think, if that circuit can get conservatives in the majority of the 9th.

McConnell is still cranking them out, today 8 more District judges had cloture filed. We still have two add’l circuit court judicial positions open to fill, the 5th & one more 11th Circuit.

“Did this idea die with him?”

Basically all legislation is dead as long as Republicans don’t have 60 votes in the Senate, not to mention control of the House. And this deadlock is not necessarily bad.

At this point, all Trump can do is get judges through - WHICH IS HUGE!

Question : A govt shutdown affects the executive branch only. Judges still hear cases. Senate and House still in session, including all of their staff. The judge process still goes on.

Is this correct?

Well, the government isn’t shutting down, but if not funded, yes the judiciary can close up shop for a while. This has happened.

Like the attitude. No more games upchuck. We do 8 district judges. 6 of the 8 are from red states, no fear of blue slip. Enjoy the two from New York, up your anal cavity.

We run the show, and some payback added for the last three years.

I really wish they would refer to it as “The Harry Reid Rule.”
