Re: the pilot episode of Cannon.
Was that the one where he picked up the .50 M2 machine gun in his arms and was shooting the plane?
Another fun fact. William Conrad was the voice of Gunsmoke’s Matt Dillon on the radio version, but when it moved to TV the network thought he was a little too ‘chunky’ for TV. So the part went to James Arness after John Wayne turned it down and recommended Arness.
I’ve heard the date a movie will be released to DVD/Netflix is negotiated in advance now. So a really long run like Star Wars had in 1977 is almost impossible now.
You are probably right about that, and it makes sense. They want to recoup their money as quickly as possible and they spend money on basically 2 things - production and marketing. Getting the most bang for the buck would, I assume, including selling all the different distribution channels in advance (either, before it flops which would reduce the value, or after it’s proven a hit which makes audiences that much more excited to get a chance to view it).
Come to think of it, a lot of industries make a lot of their money in pre-selling their widgets. The days of making a product and then trying to sell it are pretty much gone. Now they promote it and sell it into distribution channels before they actually make it.
Be woke, go broke.
I just see boomers, of which I am one, doing the cam/stream thing in large numbers.
Make that I Don’t see...
The only good thing about these crap movies is watching the hilarious YouTube reviewers completely obliterate them.
Cause we are sick of seeing women acting like they can kick the ass of men! Especially these 3 anorexic idiots.
Not this episode.
But Cannon was a great character, because he had a lot of street smarts, was an ex-cop, and went into the private detective business for the money and the lifestyle it afforded him.
The pilot episode was unique in that he did it for personal reasons, not the bucks.
Cannon got into a lot of physical fights, too.
Not what you'd expect from such a big guy, but he held his own.
He would also get knocked unconscious by the bad guys, and taken back to their hideout.
More "realistic" than seeing William Conrad all of a sudden turning into some Karate champ and taking down ten guys.
And yes, Conrad had a great voice.
He got a lot of narrator work.
Funny thing is that during the original Angels series, they had an episode that actually featured a tranny character.
It was called "Angel on the Line".
And he/she turned out to be the BAD guy.
I was floored when I saw it in reruns, because that would NEVER be allowed today.
Amazing. I must be postscient.
And yes, Conrad had a great voice.

Including, strangely enough, Rocky and Bullwinkle.
The first word in the title would have to be shortened a bit.
Also, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu a more effective combination than Jacklyn Smith, Farrah Fawcett, and Kate whatever.
